We have never failed to find ATM's at any of the ports we have visited. I wouldn't change money on board as you will get a poor exchange rate.
luci
I always take currency of the area with me for spending on shore and for tips on board (which not all passengers give as they are included)
Roger
Thanks for the info guys. I will keep checking back to see if I can pick up any more tips before I go. Di.
Can anyone advise on the dress code for this ship. We are leaving on 1 May. I now its all casulal during the day, short, t-shirts, swimwear ect but what about at night. I know the captains dinner is formal (I am prepared for that). But what about the other nights. Are 3/4 trousers and a blouse ok or is it more like dresses for the ladies. What about the men in the evening? are jeans allowed or is it just coloured chino type trousers and a shirt, are polo's ok. Sorry for all the ? but am getting a bit excited now. Only a few weeks left to get the rest of my cloths shopping done and Tesco have got some good offers on at the mo. Thanks for the help. Di.
The forum won't let me post a link, but if you do a search on You-tube my video is titled "Thomson Destiny cuise ship - HD tour - 2010".

PS My review of The Destiny is in the reviews section.
This is my first time posting here - so please be patient!
We are going on the destiny in september for my 50th birthday (Moorish Delights & Med Rennaisance), having read some of the reviews I am a little bit concerned about recent reviews re: staff cut backs etc, ship being old/tatty etc. Hopefully Im just panicking a bit. We are all inclusive and upgraded to deluxe cabin number 7000, cant find anyone who has actually stayed in this particlar cabin! any advice to put mind at rest would be appreciated........
Thanks
redwineguzzler
We have been in cabin suit No 7000 you will not be disappointed its the largest deluxe cabin and is larger than some of the more expensive suits. It has a separate bedroom with TV and a lounge with a 2nd TV, the bathroom is large as is the walk in wardrobe, we have also been in the other deluxe cabins which are good but not so large, they are we think in the ideal place on the ship as its easy to go back to after shows etc when you have queues for the wc's.
We have just returned from 2 weeks in the Caribbean, our fifth time on Destiny, and did not notice any drop in service yes it is an old ship but you are in one of the best cabins and if you do like red wine, as your name implies, you will like the house merlot!!!
If you require any further info you can PM me. Our first trip was our 40th and we have done the cruises you have booked
Roger
Many thanks for replying! - It's great to have actually got someone who has actually stayed in that partucular cabin, and I must say you have made me stop panicking!!
Yes I do love a glass or two of red wine, so I don't think I'll be dissapointed on that front.
Geting quite excited about the cruise and hopefully looking forward to some good food/entertaiment.
We have opted for the late dinner seating - how strict is this?
Roger
Is room service something extra we will have to pay for -and if so how much?
Am I also right in thinking I will need a USA plug adaptor for my hairdryer on this ship?
Cruisers do all different things we go ashore early back for lunch, if not on a trip, then a good book and a few drinks on deck before getting ready for the night, up to the bar for pre dinner drinks then a nice meal and a show in the Can Can then off to the Oklahoma for more entertainment and finish off with coffee and a night cap after the Casino very boring !!!!
We had no problems with the food, mostly we ate in the Seven Seas for evenings fixed sitting with the same people, plenty of selection 5/6 courses with plenty of variety in each and its the same at lunch time (open seating) but they do a nice barbe on deck or the Lido also they have a pub lunch in the Clipper bar a couple of times and again we like the food, breakfast you can eat outside in the Lido self service or self service in the Seven Seas, we did waiter service in the Seven Seas (no extra cost) lots of choice and the bacons great, (try the French toast). Drinks as you are on all inc you get most things free all the top names the only liqueur you have to pay for is Baileys £1.05 all cocktails are free, as you are in a deluxe cabin you have both 240v and 120v with 2 pin round.
Anything else just ask
Roger
In the Seven Seas restuarant, are you actually allocated seating, and thats the same place you get every evening with the same guests, or do you get seated somewhere different with different guests every night? (oop's didn't read you last reply properly).
Round Pin plugs - is this the same ones you use for the USA?
Is the Cabin we are staying in near any of the bars for a pre dinner cocktail.
I also noticed on the deck plans, that our cabin has some stairs nearby - did you get any noise from this?
Questions, questions, and more questions eh!.
Red Wine Guzzler
Plugs - Yes, USA adaptors are required to use your electrics. Due to the lower voltage UK hairdryers and hair straightners won't work, so don't bother taking them, there'll be a working hairdryer in your cabin anyway. Mobile phones, camcorders and similar will charge up OK in the cabin using the USA adaptor.
We would go back on the ship in a flash. Just relax and look forward to your holiday - it will be great!
We had a wonderful cruise too, my review is posted in the cruise reviews section for all to read.
Here's the link to our reviews for this ship:-
HELP - Have just picked up my tickets for 1 May and its says that hairdiers or straigteners will not work in the cabin unless they are duel voltage What do I do Do they hire them, are they already in the cab for you (I doubt it). Do they supply an iron?
Can't comment on straighteners or hair-dryers (am sure if you look through the thread you will find something about them though) but defo no irons allowed in cabin (Health and Saftey issue) they have an on-board washing and ironing service if you need that done - the enforcement of no irons is taken very seriously.
There is a hairdryer in the cabin and this works fine, despite what you might read elsewhere. The plug behind the TV is 240v and there are 240v plugs in the corridor outside the cabin every few cabins if you don't mind standing outside or, failing that, taking a trailing socket. All the sockets, 110v and 240v, need a USA style two flat pin adaptor. There aren't any irons and you can't take them yourself because of the fire risk. There is an ironing/laundry service on board, but it's expensive.
Or you could just stand up on deck and let the warm Mediterranean sun do the job for you. Can't guarantee it will straighten it though, judging by the effect the Caribbean sun/wind had on mine!
Relax - you will have a great time.
Thanks for that. The plug behind the TV is an excellent idea. At least I can now have a good hair week lol. Di.
