We have been going to Turkey for yrs now
Not had any injections at all
Reason been our doctors in our home town are the only ones that charge you for them
At £45 a time each lot off money
Its annoying cause my sisters docters are free ive asked time and time again but get no joy
Only other way is change doctors but not prepared to do it.
But we have never hailed anything at all so fingers XXX but it is stupid when all but one gives them free
We have never had any injections for Turkey. Whenever you read advice saying you need them, it is probably general advice, which is not necessarily applicable to the whole country. Turkey is such a huge country, and if you were going to the poor, undeveloped regions, where conditions - sanitation etc., may not be good, perhaps it is adviseable. However conditions in the tourist areas, where most of the people who would read this forum go, are very good, so the risks are very low.
i'm a practice nurse and deal with this sort of thing daily we advise patients that they need to ensure that they have had a tetanus/diptheria in the last 10 years and hepatitis A. you should not have to pay for these as the surgery gets reimbursed on a monthly basis according to how many they do. if they do charge they can be done for fraud!! the only injections surgeries are allowed to charge for yellow fever rabies and hepatitis B (but if you have hepatitis A and hepatitis B together you don't have to pay) hope this helps
For our injections just to see what response i get again has i said
in an early post they do keep asking for £45 each.
But thanks for advice
i am going to turkey for the first time in two weeks (yipee!),and have just been told i might need certain jabs before i go!.can anyone help me with this.
I've been to Turkey numerous times and have never subjected myself to jabs of any sort. Many years ago my doctor said if I intended going inland and doing any serious walking then maleria tablets etc would be required but for the normal tourist destinations jabs and maleria tablets weren't necessary. I have never had any problems at all and neither have any of my friends or family.
We have been to Turkey 10 times now and have never had injections, and never been ill.
same here been going to turkey for 24 years up to 6 times a year and never had jabs nor have any of my children, my mother lives there and hasnt had any either so you should be fine
after 15 years of going i only had the jabs first time because turkey was an unknown to me but only the last ten years we haven't had anything its quite a clean country the water system is good and sanitation is good and were i am in hisaronu we get bins emptied three times a day this may be because its a main holiday resort but its up to every individal what they feel comfortable with if anything have tetinus
if you're up to date with tetanus and polio..which you should have even in the UK..then you dont need more than that..the kids here are on the same vaccination programme as in the UK...they dont have anything extra..so that should tell you something.
Have a great time and enjoy
I have lived here for 9 years in Antalya and am still alive and well.
the injections that we had were, hep a, typhoid, polio and tetanus. (excuses the spelling), for me and my partner, the kids had typhiod and hep a, when you have them, you are then covered for 10years.
Sacko - if it's any help, I've just rung our Doctor's surgery re: jabs and the sister there said that they work along the lines - if it's recommended then have it!!! She said that if it was just me and hubby going then it's up to us to decide, but as we are taking children she would definitely advise it.
Hep A, diptheria and tetanus.

hi we didnt have jabs, and im normally the one who gets sick, but i was fine..as for inflatables yep you can use them, but a standard lilo is anything between £5 and 7...yes the ones we buy here for about £3 lol..so either take them with you or do what i said...have agreat time..
Thanks for that - think I will err on the side of caution with the kids and have them done. I think I am trying to talk myself out of it as I hate needles and am a wimp really
Sacko - I'm booked in for next Monday - got to break it to the kids now, they'll freak!!!!!!!
Julie - Don't think I will tell mine. The youngest wouldn't understand anyway but the eldest would go mental too so think the best bet would be just to get them in there so there is no time to think about it - thats the plan in theory anyway!
I'm not saying that I am right, but I've been going on package holidays (including turkey and north africa) now for over 30 years, most places suggest a couple of immunisations, but i've never had any of them and been fine, just made sure that I have all the standard ones here, tetanus and the like.
Actually, I have been on the site having a good look around the last couple of days. Very informative and key readign before you go!
I at least will be going to the tour shop in Sarigerme now after reading the differences in prices and can't wait to have a turkish bath after reading the procedure!
Can anyone help me pronounce the village Sarigerme? I know Side is pronounced see-day (After loomking at the mentioned website!) but can't find anything else!
Also woul dlike to know how to say phrases eary so I can thank the maids and and bar man etc.
Cheers
