im flying with First Choice from Gatwick to Florida Sanford in normal class in Febuary, does anyone know if the drinks are expensive? As i would of thought the prices would go up very high since all of the terror threats in America, my daughter is dreading the flight as she says she will pass out if she has to pay £1.50 for still drinks! Also does anyone know how the meals are and what type of meals they serve going to Florida?? Also my daughter wants to know if they have the maps during the flight that tell you where you are and how fast the plane is going like they have with Virgin and American Airlines

Thanks very much

Becky,
I have used First Choice for long haul twice in the past year.
You will have the usual hot meal about an hour after take off and a snack just before landing.
The IFE has the skymap and also tells you distance to destination, speed and the wind speed.
The price for drinks are near enough the same before the security scares.
I love First Choice and I would not hesitate to use them again.

Hi all,

I have just returned from holiday in the Maldives and would like to thank Darren first of all for his flight report he gave a while back.
Initially FC wanted to charge £700 for the upgrade to SC premier, which I thought was excessive, and it was Darren's report that eased my concerns.

Well I can tell everyone that the SC was excellent, adequate leg room (I'm 6ft) and comfortable seating, and for £5 you could upgrade your IFE. All in all it was an excellent flight.

Unfortunately on the departure from Gatwick we suffered a 24hr delay due to a bird strike (these things happen) and the way we where treated by FC ground staff was apalling!

We where not given any information and where moved from one place to another, no-one would take responsability and make the decision to move all passengers to hotels.

Saying this I will not hesitate to use FC again next year when I return to the Maldives because overall they where excellent.

I hope this helps other people with concerns about Star Class seating as it really is OK.

Thanks,

Malcolm.

Malcolm,

I'm glad you had a great time. First Choice have their long haul product spot on with the Star Class concept. Shame about the 24 hour delay, but bird strikes do happen and it can cause quite a bit of damage. I'm surprised FCA didn't treat you better though. I had a similar situation in 2003 when we were delayed 52 hours coming home from the Dom Rep, via Jamaica with MYT. The DC-10-30 (G-BYDA) which was taking us back to MAN went tech on us. It was a real shame having to stay another 2 days! They just whisked us off to a 5* AI for the delay and were spot on. I'm surprised FCA weren't more helpful although it must be stressful for those left to deal with it. At least you had a great holiday. I've used FCA 3 times this year and they've impressed my every time.

Can anybody tell me what the seat size should be? We have just got back from Sharm el sheikh. It was the most uncomfortable flight ever and i always fly first choice. The seats seemed very small and cramped. For a 5 hour flight it was unbearable. After a really good holiday, the flights there and back spolit the holiday.

bewitched,

Depending on your departure airport, it would have been a Boeing 757-200 (most likely) or Airbus A320/1-200. If you let me have your flight number, I'll try and find out which aircraft it was. These have 28" seat pitch, 17.2" seat width (from memory) and are exactly the same as all the other UK charter airlines. I've flown on all the aircraft types in the FCA fleet this year and thought they were fine. This meets the minimum legal requirement for a flight of this length.

I am on flight FCA024 Manchester-Mombasa departing 23:25 today.
Can anyone tell me if this flight is operating as it does not show up on Man Airport live flight info?
Also I notice the Male flight due to arrive 21:25 is running late, due at 00:20, assuming my flight is operating, is the late arrival of this flight going to to mean a 3 hour delay to my departure?
I assume 1 767 would operate both flights, or is there a spare aircraft at manchester?

The reason it probably doesnt show up is because the winter season has only just started and Manchester hasnt been updated yet.

I dont doubt its going otherwise you would have been told.

The flight isnt actually late coming back in, it has been to pick up crew and a few passengers from Colombo,Sri Lanka as they no longer fly there.

As for aircraft there are spare ones around today, whether they will operate i cannot say but BL which operated Male will be in late. BM and LA are around in the UK somewhere doing nothing today so i hope you are lucky.

It's too early to say, but chances are it'll be a Boeing 757-200. The summer 2006 schedule was serviced with a 752 so I can't see it changing. These aircraft are configured 3-3 with 233 seats and ceiling mounted IFE. Seats are faced with a nice green leather. They're powered by two Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 high bypass turbofans each producing 41,500 lb of thrust, proper rocket ships :) The trip distance is 1948 miles and the flight time 4 hours 15 mins!

This is the likely route:

Only 32 days before we fly and getting excited. So I'm hoping one of the gurus here can provide some information.

Our flight : Thursday 14/12/06 13:25 FCA042 LGW to GOI

Questions.

Where will the aircraft used for this flight be coming from prior to leaving for Goa?
I would like to keep an eye out for delays etc. by using the BAA and Manchester departures/arrivals web pages the day before.

Is it possible to pay for the airport lounges at Gatwick on the day or must you bookup before.

I think I've cracked it! G-OOBK was assigned for FCA042 on 2nd November. By doing a search to track that particular aircrafts movements on 2nd Nov, it opperated flights FCA082/3 that morning. I'm not quite sure where those flights opperate to/from but the logs were quite close so probably a high density route such as the Canaries.

I'm not sure if you need to book lounges in advance or not, but you can book the Aviance lounge for £17.95 from the LGW wetsite.

Enjoy your flights with FCA, they really are First Choice when it comes to long haul UK charters at the moment.

Hope that helps,

Darren

Thanks Dazbo.

Where do you get your information!

I've booked the upgrade to Premier and I'm looking forward to the flight and seeing my wifes if and when she realises we've got extra leg room etc.
