2 guitarists, very friendly and open to most type of music requests, they did some David Gray & The Eagles as well as a few Irish classics, but they do pretty much what the crowd asks for. I think they have Karaoke in the square which is practically opposite the Jardin Del Mar. We were dissapointed with the square, every one is jammed in tight & the acts we caught werent much, every one to their own of course. I cant sing for toffee, so didnt notice any other karaoke bars as I wasnt looking, but there are so many bars in the resort there must be a few to sing your socks off in :D

Here are a few good places to eat in Santa Ponsa.

L'Ouest on the southern side of the bay serves good international food in a comfortable atmosphere. A tad classy and quite pricey. Mason Del Ray - at the far end of the road next to the big tobacconists opposite the beach tourist office - serves superb Mallorcan food and is top value. The cheapest set menu is about 8 euros at the Rheine - at the end of the parade of shops going towards the Marina. Noalex cafe in the same parade serves cheap, filling snacks.

A wonderful resort.

Hey all

Thanx for all your suggestions. I had a great holiday!!!! We were loving Disco Inferno! I wasn't overly impressed with Fama but after a bit of convincing from some guys we met at our apartments, we went in for a bit on my last night, it wasn't too bad but I was faily drunk by the time we got there, still ended up in Disco Inferno at the end of the night! We also gave Green hills a bash, it was a bit 'scream if you wanna go faster' if you know what I mean but a good laugh all the same!
Strings was amazing for live entertainment it had something for everyone (the ages on our group varied from 24 to 47, as it was a family holiday) and we totally loved it!
We started most of our nights in the Auld Triangle, Kevin did his one man band bit extreamely well and always remembered my sister, our friend and myself when ever we went in!!!
I have to say my friend Laura and I enjoyed the holiday so much we are looking to go out and work there for the summer next year! In all a definate we're loving it from us!!! :love2

Hi all,
Off to Santa Posa for the September week-end. (Glasgow 23 Sept ) Staying at Hotel Pionero which is all inclusive. Will probably have a wander out though given it is a very short break. Opinion sought as to where to go for one night for a good nights entertainment.

Hi Wilson

Check out this site http://www.santa-ponsa.com

There's load of good bars and restaurants near to your hotel - also check out the Irish Quarter.

Have a look at the web site load of good places listed together with a map.

I'm sure you will have a great time.

We too thought we were going to the Hotel Pionero on an all-inclusive basis. When we got to the hotel, we were directed to the hotel adjoining which is the Hotel Santa Ponsa Park, which is the AI hotel.
Not to worry though, the Santa Ponsa Park was a great hotel and you could use all the facilities at the Pionero, which is HB (have to pay for drinks there).
I'm sure you'll have a great time, as we did, see my review in the hotel section.
Lots of shops, bars, restaurants outside the hotel and a beautiful bay - wish I was going with you :D

Sorry to hear Lessie didn't enjoy Santa Ponsa. Yes there are a couple of rowdy bars with all-day-english-breakfast-only-fools-and-horses-and-football. There are Irish, Dutch, Spanish, Scandinavian, Italian, English and Scottish bars. There are even clubs playing 'suburban wedding' disco.

But there are also excellent restaurants, an attractive marina, scuba-diving and a stunning, pristine beach. You can walk or horse-ride in the hills, play golf on championship courses or walk in the national park adjoing the town. It's less than a quarter hour's drive into the capital, Palma, much the same distance to the stunning west coast and even nearer to Magaluf for those 'out-of-your-head-I-don't remember-anything' nights.

It's a civilized resort, divided in two. To the north of the bay is the bar/club/entertainment area which can be a tad raucous. At the southern end it's quieter, slightly more residential, spanish and middle-class, very popular with families and where many of the privately-owned apartments are permanently occupied. Only the tatty entertainment at the 'Jardin De La Luz' rudely intrudes, but hey, the views are great in compensation.

I have many English friends who return to Santa Ponsa year after year. Perhaps that's a little unimaginative but there must something about the place for people to want to return.

Carol,

Thanks for the info. Sometimes you begin to wonder when a 'change' of venue hits you. This time we will be prepared at at least know the change is good too !

We've been back 5 weeks today from Santa Ponsa and I've finally got round to adding my little bit (I'm not slow but been very busy starting new job & other things). Absolutely love Santa Ponsa and this year was our second year running and because weather wasn't what we expected for August(we flew home on the 20th after getting soaked in the storms) we have booked for Cyprus next year ("Don't get clouds in Cyprus" - hubby). Desperately hoping we can return to Santa Ponsa for May half-term next year(yes new job is in a school) so would appreciate any info re DIY to Santa Ponsa.

Would also like to mention two great bars we visited during our stay this year,Scrumpy Joes & The Olive Grove.Ok we are a liitle biased because the owners of both come from Sheffield but both were great and the Olive Grove had only been open a few weeks when we were there and I'm sure they'd give anyone a warm welcome. My son loved the the Olive Grove 'cause the owner was a Sheffield United fan.

Hi Mandy

Re: DIY to Santa Ponsa next May. We have booked flights for that time from http://www.jet2.com - we have paid £78 Manchester to Palma return - can't believe we got it so cheap considering its Bank Holiday.

Not booked any accommodation yet but will probably use http://www.majorca-accommodation.com or http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk. Not all the rooms for next year have been released yet so will wait until November before we book.

Although going back to Santa Ponsa the week after next so will have a look round then. More than likely settle for the Jardin del Mar (again).

Have a look in the DIY forum there's loads of useful information there.

Hope this helps.

Just back from our long week-end break and had a great time. Got put into the Santa Ponsa Park (AI) sure enough. Weather was kind to us with only one thunderstorm late at night. Paid a visit to the Irish Quarter and had a good night in the Dubliner. Thanks again to you both for your info.

Hi, I am looking into booking a week in Santa ponsa first week in feb as a CHEAP! holiday.

Can anyone tell me approx how much the airport transfer is by taxi ?

How far Santa Ponsa is from Magaluf and Palma Nova?

Will there be much open in Santa Ponsa this time of year?

Thank you
Reply
Hiya Lou & Tim

Transfer from Palma Airport to Santa Ponsa is around 35 euros.

Santa Ponsa is 10 mins taxi ride to Magaluf.

Dont think there will be a lot open - have a look at this link and download the pdf version of the Santa Ponsa magazine - that will tell you what is open during February.

Regards
