Sorry to hear Lessie didn't enjoy Santa Ponsa. Yes there are a couple of rowdy bars with all-day-english-breakfast-only-fools-and-horses-and-football. There are Irish, Dutch, Spanish, Scandinavian, Italian, English and Scottish bars. There are even clubs playing 'suburban wedding' disco.
But there are also excellent restaurants, an attractive marina, scuba-diving and a stunning, pristine beach. You can walk or horse-ride in the hills, play golf on championship courses or walk in the national park adjoing the town. It's less than a quarter hour's drive into the capital, Palma, much the same distance to the stunning west coast and even nearer to Magaluf for those 'out-of-your-head-I-don't remember-anything' nights.
It's a civilized resort, divided in two. To the north of the bay is the bar/club/entertainment area which can be a tad raucous. At the southern end it's quieter, slightly more residential, spanish and middle-class, very popular with families and where many of the privately-owned apartments are permanently occupied. Only the tatty entertainment at the 'Jardin De La Luz' rudely intrudes, but hey, the views are great in compensation.
I have many English friends who return to Santa Ponsa year after year. Perhaps that's a little unimaginative but there must something about the place for people to want to return.
