Expert Opinion

Paphos is a picturesque town with a small harbour. There are lots of touristy shops and restaurants along the front but you can venture into the back streets for other options, or into Paphos old tow…

This was our 1st visit to Cyprus & it was also our honeymoon.

Paphos town is nice with plenty restaurants, although not as picturesque as we'd imagined it to be. The harbour was about a 15 min walk away & had numerous fish restaurants and bars where you could sit & watch the boats coming in.

We went to the Bird & Animal Park one day which was excellent & had very modern facilities, including baby change which we found Paphos town restaurants and bars lacked. The park is definately worth a visit & is about 30 mins by bus from the hotel. There is a fantasic cafe there that sells really good food & has a really relaxed atmosphere.

Entertainment was good, but if you've been to Protaras or the east side of Cyprus, you'll notice there isn't so much of it in Paphos, plenty of kareoke but thats about it.

I was extremley dissapointed with the beaches, locally they were all pebbely with a vast amout of rocks in the sea which makes it difficult to swin in. Only Coral Bay was the best placeto go, but again, you can only go there if you have a car. Be warned, the drinks and food are expensive at the beaches.

Paphos is a lovely place but from what I was told the prices for everything have gone up. Eating out for a family of 4 was more money than you would pay in the UK so try out Big Mamas, good value for money.
The locals are freindly & shops etc are not that pushy.
Entainment around town I can't really comment on as I have 2 children & not being out to late but some restarants put on shows.
The local & best beach is Coral bay but still a drive or bus ride away.Paphos town/harbour is also a drive/bus/taxi ride away, Taxis from the eleni to the Harbour go about £6 to 7 cyp each way, car hire ranges from £12 to £25 per day.
The water park is great fun & will keep you going all day but again not a cheap day out.
I probably wouldn't return to Cyprus because the worlds a big place but we still enjoyed it.

The resort in my eyes is still being completed, every other building is still being worked on and all the footpaths are still being concreted.

Bar Street was not up to the standards of other Bar Streets in other resorts.

meals were a pretty good standard right through the resort but costly average cost with out drinks for my family was £45 to £55 cypriot,. Fat Mamas is worth a visit if your aint eaten for a few weeks but beware that they dont do Kids meals. The black Eagle just over from the hotel was excellant value and food wise.

I also found that shopkeepers never really gave you the time of day either, never taking the eyes of the tv and not knowing the words "please, thank you, hello or goodbye"

Lastly the Mayfair is in a residential part of paphos and in a district that has been populated with russions as well.

It is not a children friendly beach - no golden sands in the area we were in - mainly rocky - but Hotel in stretch where they have good pools with facilities for everyone and excellent grounds stretching to the sea.

We were not seeking outside bars or restaurants - but a nearby Irish bar O/Connors - was a good choice for a bar snack at lunchtime.

The airport is small for the volume of business - a new Airport is under construction which makes the approaches a big construction site.

Our taxi gave us a hair raising ride down country lanes - but we made it ok - new approach roads badly needed.

Pahos is lovely with plenty to do and fairly clean. The market is good but not well advertised or signposted. The harbour area is beautiful and has fantastic places to eat and drink. I loved Coral Bay too, the beaches were lovely, shops and bars were varied and good value. Overall Cyprus is expensive, but everywhere is the same. I would defeinately go again.
