Use the hotel taxi to the town/beach, and there is a washer in apartment so take wash tablets. Quiet on Sundays but still some things are open..

Village had excellent restaurants, didn't have one bad meal apart from at the chippie. Good mix of tradional style and modern bars. Bar entertainment was either kareoke or irish music which got a bit much after two weeks. Drinks were expensive in all the bars. Nowhere for teenagers to go at night. Harbour area was lovely, particularly to watch the sunset. Some parts of the village were very old with cobbled streets and original houses, nice church at the top.

Beach excellent and well worth the ten minute walk, didn't need to spend money on sunbeds, lot of space.

Disappointed with night trip to portimao, not much life at night, difficult getting taxi home. Caught the bus to waterpark but no lazy river!

Would visit again but best for adults only or families with small children.

Alvor is great with fab beaches. Very relaxing and good for older people. Love the place. Too many Irish at times and shaven headed English that look the rock bottom of society. They are not all ike that but there are a hell of a lot of them.

We visited Alvor around 16 years ago when it was a nice fishing village with a few resturants and to be honest that what I was expecting! However times have changed and it is now a bit like Benidorm, particulary one of the main streets which had bars and blasting music. It wasn't the resort we wanted. However it had character and some of the resturants although I think overpriced served good food. Once resturant 'Captains Table' was a specific example where the food was good but grossley overpriced for a piece of fish (in a fishing village!). the service was a bit substandard too, one waiter having a bit of a tandrum and throwing food at a customer - made us laugh a bit, but a bit unprofessional I think!!. Back to the resort, lovely clean beaches with cheap sunbeds. weather fantastic and generally when I got over the shock of 5 Chinese resturants and two indian resuturants (in Alvor for gods sake) it was ok. We even went for a chinese and had a super meal! Would go back, but stay at a 4 star hotel nearer the village and beach.

Alvor is a quaint fishing resort suitable to middle-aged couples but not in our opinion family orientated.

Alvor is one of the most beautiful places we have visited and we have been everywhere! Not commercialised like Costa Del Sol etc. retaining its natural beauty and character.

Alvor is an old fishing village perfectly combined with lively nightlife, beautiful restaurants and lots and lots of character. It has old cobbled style streets filled with shops, restaurants and lots of Irish pubs! On the harbour edge they cook the fish on barbecues in the street served straight onto your plate, however there are plenty of other dishes if fish doesn’t take your fancy.

The beach is the most unspoiled beautiful beach we have ever seen with lots of water sports, but if that is not your thing then there are is a further twenty miles of beach for you to walk along.

However, there are many stray dogs that roam the streets of Alvor. Although, they are harmless and do not pay any attention whatsoever. Locals lay out water and food for them and it seems they are well vetted. They have obviously caused no bother to any one for them to be there and they certainly didn’t cause any bother to us. We actually wanted to take a couple home!!!!!!!!

We will be returning to Alvor very shortly and hopefully we will be able to afford a stunning villa of our own.

The resort is very clean with hardly any or no litter about. The entertainment is good for families as there seems to be no night clubs about. The pubs do stay open very late if you want that too. The beach is very nice but the roads leading to it could do with some better pavements.

I would definately go back.

The resort was clean and tidy.
We did not avail of the resort entertainment because it was not varied enough so we went to Alvor everynight for the entertainment.
The beach was serviced a couple times a day by bus. The beach was nice and clean and very hot.

The town of Alvor is just minutes walk from Club Alovferias. It is a lovely little village with cobbled streets and genuine portoguese style buildings. It is a very friendly place where we always felt welcome and at home. It was remarkably clean and inexpensive. The beach and harbour were to die for and even just walking along the harbour or through the streets at nighttime was most relaxing yet entertaining. Plenty of nightlife about too, never stuck for a bit of crack.. Ten out Ten for this one Airtours. I would definately reccommend this Resort.

Alvor itself is a beautiful resort, just the way I like it, quiet, plenty of restaurants to chose from and plenty of time do do as you please. The locals are all friendly even if you are not spending money in their restaurant or shop. The beach was a mass of sand, no jet skis, banana boats, speedboats or waterskiers. Just swimmers and the sea, absolutely beautiful. Look out for Nuno the taxi driver, the friendliest in the resort, he will talk the leg of a stool, he`s easily identified he`s the youngest and drives a skoda. Great crack after a nights drinking and eating. Can definitely recommend this resort.

Alvor was a lovely place with more going on than we expected.

There is a choice of small bars and a good karaoke bar. Lots of choice for eating out, burgers and fries to fresh fish and steak.

From the hotel it is around a 10 minute walk to the 1st pub and a 30 minute walk to the far end of Alvor.

We visited Portemao but were very disapointed, all we found was a very old town with nothing to do. WE then walked right along the beach to the next resort, Praire de Rocha where we found a lovely port area with lovely restaurants and bars. We enjoyed it so much that we took a taxi there for 2 nights of our holiday (around 15 euros there and back from Alvor)THe rest of Praire De Rocha was nice but a bit like Benidorm as you walked further down the beach. (English breakfasts, English pubs, karaoke and happy hour everywhere).

THe beach at Alvor was lovely and although the sunbeds were quite expensive we enjoyed quite a few days out at the beach. THe beach is huge and as we went in June (just before Euro 2004) was fairly quite and very relaxing. It is quite a trek back to the hotel though when it is hot, but there are plenty of bars to stop off at and cool down.
