Use the hotel taxi to the town/beach, and there is a washer in apartment so take wash tablets.
Quiet on Sundays but still some things are open..

I just love fresh fish so I thought I was in paradise. When they say fresh fish they mean it!
We went in winter but still has BBQ sardines on the beach.
The beach goes on for ever so a walk before dinner is great.
The little town is good for a walk if you are not afraid of the dark.
Taxi drivers are good and don't seem to rip you off.

Alvor is a quiet fishing village. It is very clean and has one of the best beaches I've every seen, you can walk for miles along it.
There are many good restrurants in Alvor, but not many discos etc. Therefore if you like it really lively, this isn't the place for you. It is more a couples and family resort.
What I really like about Alvor is it still has the character of a fishing village, although there are a few hotels and several apartment blocks, it isn't a purpose built holiday complex.
It is only a short distance from Portimao and P. de Roche if you want more shops and nightlife.

The beach was about a 15 minute walk and Alvor Town Centre was less then 5 minutes which had little streets with bars and restaurants.
The harbour was beautiful with little fishing boats and huts where fishermen would sort out their bait.
We went to the Zoomarine, which is a must for all families. The sealion, parrott and dolphin shows were excellent and the rides for the children are included in the price so they can go on them as many times as they like. It cost about 66 euros for us and it was money well spent.

This hotel is about a 15 minute walk into Alvor were the beach is. The beach is very long and clean and we both enjoyed going in the sea. Very good for children as well. As it was late November there was only a few people on the beach. Praia da rocha is one of the main areas this is a 50 minute walk from the hotel or you can get a taxi for 7 Euros! We would come back to this resort again and again.

The resort is a "lived in resort" which retains a lot of its old village charm.
It was lovely and clean and the beach is beautiful.
There are some stray dogs around but they don't bother you and were very friendly to us when we bothered them. They even went for walks with us, then left us when we told them to. They added to the enjoyment of our holiday.
I have only given the Resort Entertainment 4 stars as for some people it may be too quiet. There are plenty of bars and restaurants of a good standard.

Alvor is perfect if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in fabulous surroundings. The town is beautiful and un-touched by tourism and mass market places - unlike several other places in the Algarve. There are great restaurants and bars around, and the staff in all the places are very friendly and accomodating. Well worth a visit.

The village is a good walk away and has 1 supermarket. It is quite expensive the fishing village in Alvor is nice ice creams are dearer in this spot. Not far along is the beach which is absolutely beautiful, and has lovely caves. We went in a taxi to Pria de Rocha (sp) this cost 7 euros from reception and 7 euros back (£4.90 each way)but that ws nice. I would say there was not a lot going on for the children when we went and if you want to go somewhere beautiful and do nothing it's great. We noticed a lot of poverty and you are targeted by Brits who try to give you scratch cards, which will always win and they are tied into time shares so watch out for that. The cafes were pleasant - fish is particularly nice. I noticed though there is a lot of poverty and some beggars on the streets. I also noticed there was quite a lot of dogs and dog dirt about

Alvor is a quaint and quiet village, suitable mainly for adults as no entertainment at all for children. Very nice restaurants, the best ones we found were China Garden and Pippas (go past el rei restaurant and about 200 yards down on left). Pippas is a small restaurant but always busy and excellent value for money, Sandra the waitress was very good at English and friendly. Loads of dogs about but not harmful. Watch out for the lady that walks up and down outside el rei as she wants cigs, every night she was there! Seemed to be quite expensive for everything not like other countries.

Quaint resort with fabulous beach, lots of good fish restaurants and bar. Particularly liked The Dublin Tavern; staff were very friendly.

Alvor is the only place I am willing to visit time and time again. The restaurants are of a high standard and serve the most delicious fish I have ever eaten, If you go there expecting clubs and a club 18-30 scene you will not find it, you will find however, a few good bars, fantastic service a very pleasant evening for all the family.
