Use the hotel taxi to the town/beach, and there is a washer in apartment so take wash tablets.
Quiet on Sundays but still some things are open..

Beaches

The resort was really just the beach which was fantastic. Clean,no rubbish, no rowdies. and fairly decent parking if you arrived early enough in the morning. Other than that no problems. As to the town of Alvor the merchants were helpful, courteous and not tending to overcharge which all in all makes for a great vacation.

The beach in Alvor was unreal it's like nothing I have ever seen before the pictures don't do it justice. The sand is golden and the sea is crystal clear.

Alvor is a lovely little fishing village with a promenade along the harbour and a beautiful beach without cliffs, so it is easy to access.
The facilities on the beach are excellent. Alvor has loads of restaurants and bars and is much busier than I expected.
The resort is built on a hill and has lovely winding cobbled streets. Also the people are very friendly and it is an excellent place for famillies.
We went in May and the weather was hot, hot, hot.
We visited the Zoomarine park which has a fabulous dolphin show and is ideal for small children.
We would definately go again.

Alvor is a lovely resort, fishing village, but is growing awfully fast.
Best Restaurant was The Panda with live accordian music on Saturday nights.
Nice fish restaurants at water's edge.
Lots of Irish, Indian and Chinese establishments as well.
Magnificent beach.

There are a number of eating places down by the fishing docks which mainly served fish, but if you looked around you could find other dishes like meat and pasta. There were however quite a few Irish bars (ideal if you like going out on the pop) with live entertainment on some nights, there are also a few nik nak shops but not many.
The town was quite quiet with not a lot to do but you could enjoy spending a day or at most 2 days looking around the cobbled streets. Your best bet is to catch a taxi (which are safe and cheep) to one of the bigger towns/resorts.
The beach at Alvor is clean and very long with plenty of space for your beach towels, but it is also quite open so if the wind does pick up it can get quite chilly and you stand a good chance of getting sand blasted.
All in all not a lot to do but if you just want to sit back and relax and catch some rays then this may be the place for you.

A quite resort for families.

Having just returned from a 2 week stay in Alvor we found the place to be warm friendly and an ideal location for a family holiday without the music blaring out of every bar you pass. Although they all had at least some form of entertainment.
As with most of the resorts you visit these days the time share touts do tend to show up from time to time but as with everywhere else a NO will usually work with them.
The beaches round about the resort are very clean and well maintained and loads of quiet spots if you dont like crowds.
If you are looking for some louder and more energetic nights out a 10 minute taxi ride (approx 7 euros) takes you to the disco's and nightclubs.

A quaint little town, a bit scruffy round the edges but this adds to its charm. The local people are friendly and helpful. Don't go to Alvor for shopping but do go for the beach, it's amazing. A long sweep of clean sand and at the eastern end is a maze of typical Algarvian rock and cliff formations.

The resort itself was very clean and tidy, although alot of wild dogs and cats even in the town, they were harmless.
Entertainment at the hotel could have been improved, I found disco dancing on stage not good entertainment for the more mature holiday makers.

When you walk through Alvor you don't see any rubbish on the floor like you do in the UK, the place is so clean.
The entertainment on the resort i cannot say as we didn't go until the last night of our holiday, but for a nice meal do go to the Kashmir Indian restaurant, as the food and service was great, a must for you curry lovers...
I would definately visit this resort again, and soon i hope..
Also for a great day out do go to the zoo marine, it's great...
