Use the hotel taxi to the town/beach, and there is a washer in apartment so take wash tablets.
Quiet on Sundays but still some things are open..

The resort was very quiet with just a handful of bars and restaurants. There is a supermarket and a hospital and pharmacy which I was very impressed with after having to make an impromptu visit!
The beach was very clean and it was very easy to find a more secluded spot by walking a little farther along. Once away from the apartment tower blocks, it is a very pretty resort and a good base to explore from.

The resort of Alvor is beautiful, with clean beaches, a traditional harbour, and a thriving and varied village area, providing a large selection of restaurants and shops to visit. During one visit to the harbour area we were able to witness the local fishermen returning to shore with their catches, and then gutting and cleaning a huge variety of fish. We also witnessed a very special, if low key, wedding ceremony. This all seemed to embody the essence of Alvor harbour life, and was the prefect holiday experience.
Whilst we visited a number of different restaurants in Alvor, we always preferred to return to Quinta Nova for our evening entertainment. There were plenty of bars that we could have visited, although no clubs that I can recall. One noticeable difference from Greece/Turkey etc that we have visited previously was that we were never really pressured into eating at any particular restaurant by pushy street marketeers.
We never spent any significant time at the beach in Alvor but were more than happy with the standard. The only criticism we would have is that most of the beach area is pre-organised with sunbeds and parasols, and so it can be quite difficult to visit with just towels, buckets & spades, and expect to pay nothing for the experience.
Once you find the heart, Alvor is a very beautiful resort and well worth a second visit.

There are a multitude of restaurants and shops in the town center, which still manages to retain its olde world charm, with the locals sitting outside their houses chatting. It is an excellent place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of some of the more livelier resorts in the Algarve. There are 3 miles of golden sandy beaches which were exceptionally clean for the duration of my stay at this beautiful resort. I found the locals to be very friendly and not hesitate to book another there next year or even take in some winter sun.

As for Alvor itself, we last visited there about 15 years ago! It's changed from a quaint fishing village to a busy resort (not as busy as Praia da Rocha though) but what is really disapponting is the amount of building work still going on - I think they should say enough is enough.
I've been to Portgual 4 times and would hesitate to go again.

Cleanliness was excellent, I have never been anywhere where the apartments were cleaned 6 days out of 7. Towels and sheets were changed every other day.
There were two pools, one each side of the bridge, we only stayed on the side where the apartment was, where the pool entertainment was, each day. Not too noisy, fns for all taking part and watching.
Never did we struggle to get a sunbed, but most people did reserve them around 9am.
Beach was a 15 min walk, the bus that took you from the apartments went twice a day, but you have to pay, but if you miss it, a taxi was cheap enough. Although to pay for a sun lounger mat for 4 at the pool was 4 Euros, at the beach was 18 euros, expensive if you go regularly.

The resort of Alvor is a relatively quiet fishing village built on a gently sloping hill. The resort comes to life at night and is quite suitable for families and over 30s. There are a few Irish bars about the place and a couple of Chinese restaurants. In all honestly a week in this place would be more than enough. The highlight of our holiday was days in Spain.

This resort is quite small but very nice. Plenty of bars and a great choice of restaurants. Lovely clean beach, but not many watersports.

The resort was really clean and I am looking forward to going back this year!
