Lots of places to eat outside resort.
Recommend going Bed and Breakfast, ignore half board option.
Do not book April, May, June as 80 percent closed with only one restaurant on offer.

Don’t stay here. I would stay under a rock on the beach in Playa Blanca over this.
Don’t stay here. Death would be better.

If you can afford it, get a suite. Overlooking the pool and the sea - perfect!

My top-rated restaurants are Camel, Bodegon Las Tapas, La Romantica, and Ninen.

Avoid altogether. Vastly overpriced.
2* - being generous. A very large ‘holiday camp’.
Pool areas fine except for other guests! Ring-fencing areas, playing loud music on portable speakers. No consideration for anyone. Vulture behaviour for sun beds ? Up at the crack of dawn we assume?
Altogether awful- unless you have very low expectations and this is your idea of holidaying, which amazingly seems to suit many of the ‘Indiscerning’ guests. Very disappointed with Althams and Jet2 for recommending.

Playa Blanca is a lovely resort. Simple.
It's very quiet (we went in the middle of July, so super Peak Season) and we had no issues with over crowding or things being too busy.
The whole place is very clean, we saw no trouble, and everyone seems to be there for the same reason: to relax.
There were no unruly kids suggesting they are all well entertained.
Pretty much everything is within walking distance which is also nice as we didn't hire a car.
There are plenty of shops and restraunts. Whether these will appeal to you or not is another matter. We found most of the eateries were your typical resort type, open air or beach front, typical resort food etc. They again all seemed nice and clean and the prices were okay. Sadly they weren't really to our tastes. We were expecting nice little fish places and that kind of thing (being a fishing village and all that!!). Apparently there are more like that in some of the smaller non tourist villages scattered about the place.
Also, the shops weren't all that great. If you want trinkets , beach towels, lighters etc then that's fine, but then again that's just our tastes, I know most places are like that.
The worst thing (and this wasn't a biggie) was the super markets. If you don't hire a car, you're stuck with what's in the resort. As we were self catering, we needed food. The supermarkets sell the basics and that's about it. There were no "local delicacies", fresh anything or other normal supermarket type things. I'm sure this because most people went catered, so there wasn't a demand for that type of thing. That did spoil it a little for us.
We used the Papagayo beach most of the time, which was really nice. It was busy, but not over crowded. It was clean and seemed very safe. The water is very calm and isn't too deep for the most part, and we saw lots of kids and adults having a good time.
All in all it's a nice place. There's not a lot to do, so if you want to see the island you will need to hire a car or use the tour operators tours (we did that and they were great). I would not suggest using the local bus services as we were warned off them by some of the locals.
If you want to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea, this is the place for you. Just make sure the place you stay has air con!!!

Playa Blanca itself is a nice resort which spreads either side of the Marina, the Dorada end being the busier. Many nice restaurants but not many places just geared to drinking only.

A beautiful, clean resort with friendly people, most of which spoke excellent English. If you get the chance, visit 'Mollies Irish Bar'. It is situated next to the beach just before you get to the main shops. A warm atmosphere with lots of entertainment there.
The beach is beautiful and clean and the sea is clear and clean.
Would recommend this place to anybody.

Not the busiest of resorts but pleasant enough. Plenty of shops and bars.
Taxis around resort are very reasonable.

From the hotel it was only about a 20 minute walk into Playa Blanca or alternatively the hotel put on a free bus.
The shops were great and you could find everything you wanted. There was no hard sell anywhere. Everything was done at a leisurely pace. There were restaurants and bars to suit every taste. Everywhere you went it was spotless.
There were some building work being carried out along the way to Playa Blanca, but that wasn't off-putting, there were more villa's being built and as the resort is so popular, this wasn't surprising.
