Hi m&n ..

It would appear that Holidaytruths do not want a rival site linked

The site in question does not allow links to Holidaytruths, and so we feel it only fair and courteous to reciprocate. :wink

As BEfreeTODAY mentions, it's a baggage handling limit and the max. 23kg rule was introduced in May 2007. Regardless of any paperwork you have, they won't accept cases over 23kg for health and safety reasons. I think the date was if a holiday was booked prior to December 2006, they will honur the 30kg (in seperate case) but after that, the limit is 23kg.

Hi Dazebo5, thanks for that information. having checked FCs website they certainly make it very clear that no one case should exceed the 23kg limit. Interesting your comment that if it was booked prior to December 06 they would have to honour the booking, although a holiday in December 2008 would not have been an option in December 06.

It would help if they would properly explain it if this is the exact reason, I think that I would not have got so annoyed if they had had the courtesy to do so. However the impression I had when I spoke with customer service was one that they were in fact calling me a liar.

The fact remains that the upgrade was sold with a 30kg baggage allowance, if this has to be split across bags so that no one bag weighs more than 23 kg then I do not have a problem. The upgrade was sold to us in January 2007 and I have evidence that this is the case. Some recompense really needs to be offered, along with a proper explanation.

I have calmed down a litte from earlier on, as with our hand baggage our total allowance is 28kg, but do still intend to follow this up.

Have been watching FCA034 & FCA035 the last few weeks (Gatwick to Sanford) & has been on time every week - it has not arrived today & FCA035 back to gatwick now saying To Be Announced any ideas whats happened?

It arrived into SFB airport late due to late departure and rerouting by ATC it is now on the ground in SFB I have asked questions but no one has a definitive answer it is either technical problems or crew issues. Former rather than the latter more likely.

Thanks BY-TOM-AMM-FCA for your quick reply it will be intresting to see when it departs.

mikeh23,

There was a slight technical problem with the aircraft. It departed SFB at 19:53 EDT and is due back in LGW at 09:05 BST today. As I type, it's at 33,000ft approaching Ireland with a ground speed of 472 kn!

Hi Miccie,

I think you need to complain to Consumer Direct on - 08454 040506 Concerning the advertised baggage weight. If you have received an allowance of 30 kg in writing from them and they charge you for exceeding 23 kg then you have a good case! pardon the pun :)

hi, we flew to dalaman on 7th august from gatwick and for whatever the reason the aicraft was changed from an airbus 321 to a b767.....as we had booked premium seats we were therefore seated in what i assume would be star class premier on longhaul with the full inflight entertaintment and great legroom......it was great......due to the larger aircraft being used there was plenty of empty seats so it was a nice quiet and relaxing flight.....the return last night was back to an airbus321....the only thing was that after leaving 54f in turkey they had no water onboard and even though we were booked in premium still charged us for our one drink! :cheers

Good morning.

Does anyone have an idea when FCA are likly to publish IFE details for Sept/Oct? Checked backed on previous posts and could not see anything. If I have missed could you advise me of the page number? Thanks

patch64,

FCA/TOM don't publish IFE listings. BY-TOM-AMM-FCA kindly posts them when they become known.

Well I am confused. I have just come back from Gatwick having checked in day before.

This is what happened.

You get 20kgs each on check in luggage
23kgs if you are in premium

Be careful of your hand luggage. You only get 5 kg each on a cabin bag!!!!!!!!!!

We were asked what seat we wanted out of the remainder that had not been previously pre allocated (and paid for!!). So we chose window seats in our preferred spot on the plane.

Check in was extremely quick and well worth the visit. We now only need to go through security, have a breakfast and board.

First Choice rocks!!!!!

Hi, just wondering what plane we will be on going from Manchester - Varadero on 11/9/08 and also what to expect regarding to in-flight goodies :) We are not going 1st class.

Hi Daz, I did read your review before I posted and assumed you were in 1st class when you stated 'star class', all this is new to me lol, the furthest I have been on a plane is from Liverpool to the IOM.
Great review by the way.

evohicks,

Star Class = economy
Star Class Premium = Premium economy.

Compared to short haul, standard star class is prety comfortable. If its your first long haul experience, you've picked a good one to start with :tup

Hi

Travelling London Gatwick > Maldives, Male 07/09/2008 FCA 0040 18:05 | 08:45 :sun2 return 22/09/2008 Male > London Gatwick FCA 0041 10:45 17:45

Would be really grateful for info on plane, IFE and any useful tips given recent problems with check in . We are travelling star/standard/economy class rather than premier and travelling down by train to Gatwick from West Wales. ETA 14.32 . Money saved might need to be spent on a couple of stiff drinks once on board! :cheers Does FCA still allow additional 10kg baggage allowance for divers? Should I get written confirmation and if so from whom?

Many thanks

quercus,

Welcome onboard

Refer to my post to evohicks above for aircraft information. For specific information on Gatwick, refer to the dedicated Gatwick Airport thread. You are still entitled to the 10kg extra luggage allowance with FCA, but it must be pre-booked, click here. You'll need to prove your diving qualifications at check-in (log book / c-card) although I've never been asked for them personally.
