I guess we were unlucky!!!! My wife is now in hospital and it is confirmed that she picked up Giardiasis whilst in Egypt. She only drank bottled water and got ill about 4 days into the holiday. She has got weaker and weaker as the weeks have gone by untill she could not walk. So if you get a tummy problem that wont go away see a doctor that has experience with Parasitic dieseases. Our ordinary doctor did not have a clue...Have a good holiday debs.....
A few in our party were ill and we'd all drank and brushed our teeth with bottled water. I doubt it was the food as we all ate the same and so we all should have been ill.
I'm thinking maybe it's the swimming pool that causes all the tummy problems?
Not sure that its the swimming pool. My wife cannot swim and id not even paddle in it. She did dip here feet in the Red sea. One day she did enjoy.By the way some are saying that they dont get enough alchohol in the drinks. Remember that they dont drink and therefore do not know what to use... Just ask for more and they will poura larger spirit measure and give a small tip and you will get the same generous measure next round.....
Thanks will pass that on when l visit. This still would not put me off going again. Just a lesson to learn. Ithink if she had recieved an injection when at the hotel it would of sorted it then and there.
Re-Giardiasis,
According to my doc, this parasite is mainly water borne,i.e swimming pools, the sea, drinking water etc.
Other areas such as uncooked food i.e salads fruit that may have been washed in local water can be a problem.
The parasite lives in the intestine and after a bowel movement can survive for long periods.
Apparently the bug can be transferred by accidently or not as the case may be swallowing soil, food, water or touching surfaces that have come into contact with the faeces of infected animals or people,so dont use your hands to eat, and wash and peel fruit etc.
Ash the rep told me the glasses are washed by hand not by machine so that could possibly be a source, also the ice and lemon in drinks is served by hand this could also be a possible source of transfer.
I my self did not use the pool and was ill for a week so I dont think its that.
Also the strength of the anti biotics used to combat this parasite mean you should not drink alcohol or you can get rearly sick.
I must stop being such a gloom merchent, but if you get this its horrible so be careful..............
Yes,according to my own doc thats what it was.I had the squirts for several weeks after coming home but put it down to irritable bowel. The faeces are slimey and the stench is aweful also felt rearly tired with no energy.
It affects different people in different ways, the average is about seven days to start after infection, but can be as little as four days ,others are infected but show little affects.
Many were ill while we were at the Conrad, this is generally put down to too much alcohol and too much sun by the reps but this is deffinatly not the case.
I am still waiting for a reply from First Choice regarding hygiene at this hotel, when they do respond I will let you know what they say.
Hi Dog, let me know what first choice say.My wife has been on the extra strong tablets for two days now. Getting better already. Hurray. I have had a hard time with the ironing!!!!!!
I wonder if this may be caused by the many birds that freely fly round the dinning room. Droppings could cause a problem!!!!!
What's the situation with bottled water at the hotel? How much are you able to have? Do they put some in the mini-bar every day and can you get more throughout the day? There will be three of us in each room, two rooms, how much per person do they give you per day?
Hi Pippy, must be getting close to your hols,
We had two bottles per day in the mini bar,but remember anything in the mini bar is payable locally.
water at breakfast was by the glass so start collecting bottles after 10 am from any bar and store them in your fridge or shelve them for later in your room, because you will drink gallons through your hols.
the stuff in the fridge is different from the water served from the bars so it does not get mixed up.
try to get a bit of stock in,helps at the end of your hols when A/I finishes
good luck..............
Yes it's getting near now, hence I'm now experiencing the phenomenon known as the Pippy Panic, happens every year shortly before departure
The bottles of water in the mini-bar, were they litre sized and was that two bottles per person or per fridge? Can you remember how much they cost?
At b/fast, are you able to help yourself to glasses of water, or do you ask a waiter, if so, do they mind how many glasses you have?
After 10am you just go to a bar and ask for a bottle of water? Do they mind how many you have in any one day? What size are the bottles?
I'm asking so many questions about water as I drink alot of the stuff when it's hot. Due to the job I do I've seen the affects of dehydration all too often and I for one do not want to suffer headaches, nausea, muscle weakness or worst of all....mental confusion
Thanks Dog
I wouldnt worry too much about the water situ
In a previous post - I think it said that the shops just down a beach sell's 5Ltr bottles for not a lot of wonga That will keep us topped up from the Gratis one's we get from the hotel....
DONT WORRY.. you will have a ball

Can't help it, I always end up in a bit of a flap just before I go on holiday so please forgive me Briar if in the next few days I ask stoooopid questions
We are a family of 5 and have booked for next year at the Concorde. We would love to hear from anyone who has stayed in the Sports Complex? We didnt realise on booking and have only just discovered from reading reviews that this complex is quite far from the main hotel. We have had to book two rooms because we have 3 kids. We are worried because we dont know if we will get interconnecting rooms and what the rooms are like in the sports complex. Would be very grateful if someone could help.
Just look at the misserable temp's that you and the guy's going out shortly will have to endure

As they say... Bring it On
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I hope the Conrad's rooms are heated
To be on the safe side, I think you should pay the excess luggage and take a few blankets JUST incase the temps go below the 30c mark during the night
My Apologies Briar -
