If you are visiting during the winter months then ask reception for extra warm blankets for the cold nights and also ask for the WiFi code ....
Plenty of food places to try although buffet places charge high costs on soft drinks with your meal ..

Pool side apartments mean kids can just go and play while being watched from the apartment.

resort area was in general very clean, very little litter and almost no gum on sidewalks.
a lot of irish bars. decent entertainment at flannigans and bar humbug. allegedly free entertainment but you notice the difference in prices if you go to one without show. bluebell prices exceptionally cheap (no entertainment) brian boru (next door) almost double the price.
beach area was very good although very dark sand, plenty sunbeds and parasols.
i would visit again but would go when cooler (over 35C each day)slight breeze gives impression it is not as hot so beware

This is our 7th time to stay in Puerto del Carmen and we have never been dismayed here. The only thing I will advise people is not to eat in El Palmeral or Lani's Cantina Tex Mex opposite the Casino. Places to go to are the Golden Corner (beside the Casino), the guys there are very pleasant and they really make you feel welcome, children are welcome also. Also the Barge Inn, just up the strip from the Casino, is a great place for food, drink and the entertainment is top class, staff are excellent and children are welcome. All in all PDC is an ideal place for your holiday as long as you are careful about where you eat. The Beach is very clean. The Avenida de las Playas is a lovely walk, beautiful views.

We were on a self catering holiday wish suited us fine, especially after speaking to other people staying at this resort which were half board or all inclusive. The food here is very much catered for the continentals.
plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from locally. As you head out into town many bars, also the harbour which has a lovely atmosphere. The nearest british bar to the flora was the Purple Turtle, there breakfasts were great value and the evening meals fantastic. Spanish bars in the old town were very pleansant too!

Puerto del Carmen has all that you need in a resort. Restaurants galore, all styles of cuisine (and budget), plenty of bars and loads of shops along the front. If you can get away from the front, there are lots of things to do away from the main promenade as well, take an excursion to the volcano or a trip to the Cesar Manrique Foundation or the caves.

Puerto del Carmen has the best beaches. Every type of restaurant to suit all tastes plus entertainment in bars, clubs and hotels. Convenient and central location.
It's so clean and well kept. Cafe Ola bar half way along the main strip was a real find, pool, restaurant, lush sunbeds, 4 poster bed to sunbathe on right on the beach. There's some nice places overlooking the old town harbour. We visit Rancho Texas it´s more of a zoo and has no rides. There is an Indian amphitheatre where we witnessed a stunning display in falconry, a Nature Park where our children watched and even played with some of the animals, a Goldmine where the big water-wheel runs water to gold-bearing sands and where the children can try to find hidden treasure and an Indian Village where they took a ride in an Indian canoes and visited the Tepees.

We stayed in the Old Town, which seemed much nicer. It had plenty of nice restaurants at various prices and quality, and lovely harbour. There is a good shopping complex with a Zara and Mango, plus various others.
The new town/strip seems a bit more tacky, with 4km of mostly English/Irish bars/clubs, various restaurants, tack shops and electric shops. But the beach across the road was lovely. Great for groups of young people who enjoy a bar crawl.
The old town suited us so much better, was a lot quieter (but not too quiet), and still had plenty to do, with plenty of nice restaurants. Better for couples and families in my opinion.
This was our 2nd visit, same hotel. We plan to book again for next winter, and would stay in the same apartments again, definatley in the old town.
