The actual apartment itself was lovely. The maintenance staff were lovely. But I can't recommend for a relaxing holiday or enjoyable time by the pool...

There were lots of bars and restaurants very close to the apartments, some more expensive than others however we found a really good and reasonable bar called Harbour Lights, good chinese, also in the town centre which is only a short walk way an english pub/restaurant called Churchills, the portions were huge and nice and very reasonable with a wii for the kids to play to allow you to have a quiet half hour (the pasta dish was served in what can only be described as a sink it was that big), only downside was the time share people, but managed to get a route that didn't come across too many

Puerto Rico is a lovely, cleanly resort with a lot to offer for those who are looking for lazy days by the beach / pool, good food + great nightlife.
The beach is a 10-15 minute walk from the Centro Commercial / McDonald's where you can hire two sunbeds + a parasol for €8.50. If you don't fancy walking to the beach you can get a taxi for around €4.
For those of you who are self catering there are many different shops where you can get your everyday essentials like Spar + Netto, I'd reccommed you shop around a little cause Spar can be a little expensive sometimes.
I'd reccommed The Royal Oak, the little Chinese restuarant (upstairs from The Royal Oak next to Dicey Reilly's), San Miguel restaurant + La Cabaña for food + Harley's Bar, Bar Bhudda + Joker's Disco for your nightlife.

touts are a major problem in puerto rico trying to get people to visit anfi and the market. found them sometimes aggressive and as they were all english could not understand how they did not know the meaning of the word "No thanks". Heaven on a Saturday and Sunday though as no touts about all day.

Puerto Rico is a bustling place at night time. From the apartments you cab go to the town centre by free bus and cab back will cost around 3 Euros. Ther are many places to eat but its all in one complex. Not really my cup of tea. I would have loved to have sat in a typica Spanish bar drinkig wine, but could not find many bars like this. There were many Irish bars, bars with karaoke, Elvis impersonators, other live acts but nothing typically Spanish at all. Its very busy and noisy in the 'town centre'. Therre is a smaller complex 10 minutes walk from Altamar with bars and restaurants, not as bustling so we tended to spend our evenings there.
The beach at Puero Rico is fine but Amadores is beautiful! So peaceful. Good food restaurants also on the beach. However, you have to pay 50c to use the loo.
Be careful you don't get swamped by reps trying to get you to go to Anfi. They will do their upmost to get you to buy timeshare. Be warned! We hired acar and got out and about. The roads can be quite scary at times, but hey!! we survived it!! We will probablt return to Gran Canaria one day, but try a different resort. All in all it was a very welcome and enjoyable break.
