The actual apartment itself was lovely. The maintenance staff were lovely. But I can't recommend for a relaxing holiday or enjoyable time by the pool...

Good beach. Reasonably priced food and drink. Average entertainment. Great weather. Maybe what's on offer is a bit too 'English' though.

Resort fine....not the most picturesque of beaches, but clean and decent. Resort absolutely fine, my only complain was the nightlife was centred around 2 commercial centres, and for me, this was almost like being in a shopping precinct by night....as opposed to a quaint seafront location...but plenty of good food choices and plenty to do..just a bit 'tacky' for my liking!

The hotel was way up the mountains, very relaxing, staff were excellent really friendly and helpful.
Always walked down to the centre great views, meals at San Miguel excellent always busy ,plenty of shops could spend all day looking.
Entertainment was spot on, been there 4 times even if we didn't get booked in this hotel we always spent every few days at this hotel, and there still remembered us.
Europa centre at the top of the hill was spot on plenty pub games and plenty of places to eat cocktail shaker, the tavern everyone makes you so welcome not to be missed.
Everything so cheap even got a netto, white sand beach was breathtaking not to be missed, taxis around all hours well worth going came back refreshed.

the resort was lovely 2 beaches to visit, and great nightlife for the younger majority, would visit this resort again but not the hotel, the people on the streets trying to sell you timeshares are very annoying get rid of those!!

Puerto Rica is a lovely place with stunning views, paticularly enjoyed the quieter Europa centre, plenty of places to eat, although they all offer the same type of menu's, but there is always the chinese buffets which are good value for money.

The resort of puerto rico is amazing, it's the kind of place where everyone enjoys. It is on amountain so disabled people might struggle, but parents with children in prams should be ok as we saw loads of families and theres plenty of ways of getting around. Puerto plata apartments are situated in the middle of the the mountain so there roughly inbetween the two centres. You can walk to either one, but the taxis are only around two euros so it hardly seems worth sweating it out. The commercial centre at the bottom, was my least favourite of the two and had the usual shops bars and restaurants. The Europa centre at the top had more to do and was better for families. It has bars where you can play drinking games and do karakoe and stuff and had one main bar called the Barbacoa. The Barbacoa is great for everyone, it has three shows a night and is free to get in, the drinks are cheap and theres table service so you don't even have to get up. Everyone is joining in by the end of the night and theres just a great atmosphere you can see why it's been voted best bar on the island. If your looking for a cheap night out it's not hard to find as drinks are on happy hour all night in nearly every bar, a few of the best are Yates's, jack daniels bar, and the turbo bar.
Theres a harbour next to he beach where you can go on boat trips including dolphin and whale spotting, catamaran trips and a pirate ship. We booked our trip through the thomas cook rep and went on the whale and dolphin spotting one, it cost 43 euro's each and was for 5 and half hours with free bar and a meal. When we arrived the boat we shoud have gone on was broken so we were upgraded to the catamaran, this didn't have the glass bottom like the other one but we were thank ful for the upgrade as we had sunbeds an a proper restaurant area downstairs. There were people been sick throughout the trip but we were told it would have been much worse on the other boat so we were lucky really. The day was really good and although the sea sickness spoiled it for a few people being able to get off and cool down in the middle of the sea made most people feel better. You could probably get the trip cheaper if you book down at the harbour and it would be just as good.
I will definitely visit puerto rico and the puerto plata apartments again as soon as i can. The only thing is Two weeks just wasn't enough!

The beach at Puerto Rico was pleasant, quite pebbly in the sea.
Beach at Ammadores was beautiful, and spent most days there.
Eating out was about the same expense as UK.
We went as a couple in their 20's, but found that the commercial centre was not our thing at all. Looked like Blackpool on a Saturday night!
It was full of touts literally dragging you in, claiming special offers on drinks, but ended up being well ripped off. They say its BOGOF, so you order 2 drinks, and get 4, and it comes to 12 euro's.... thats 3 euro's per drink, which is what it is anyway, so its definately not BOGOF.
Snoopys bar was awful, and FULL of 14yr olds getting paraletic and throwing up everywhere.
Harleys bar was full of people on the pull... okay for groups of lads and girls, but not for couples.
La Fiesta bar was quite good, with a bit of entertainment on.
Sinatra's bar was quite cheap.
The Drag show is worth seeing, its quite funny, and something a bit different.
We preferred the Europa centre most nights.
Mambo's at the Europa centre was brilliant, and really made our holiday. The staff are so friendly. The DJ was brilliant and kept everyone entertained. They also had a new addtion to the staff, a baby chiwauwa!!!...
We stayed in Puerto Rico for 2 weeks, and did the following trips:
Spirit of the Sea: Did not see any dolphins.
The whale and dolphin trip: (dont know the name of the company, but on a red boat on the right hand side of the beach): Saw lots of dolphins, including a baby with its Mum. Well worth seeing.
Sioux City: Went on our last day to kill time, good day out, most of the day consists of shows. Very tongue in cheek! Heard the night trip was good as well.
Aqualand: Very good, the days goes really fast, most of it spent queueing at rides, but worth it. You pay for sunbeds 3 euros and lockers 3 euros. Its worth booking this through one of the companies rather than going independantly, as at about 4.30 when we left, there was a massive queue for the buses etc to get back to Puerto Rico.
Palmitos Park: Good, but mostly birds. They do have crocs, and monkeys, but not many. If you have ever been to the animal park in Tenerfe, Palmitos Park is not as good.
The market at Mogan: Went on the ferry, probably easiest way to get there. Mogan Very pretty, but the stalls were just repeated all the way through. Did not buy anything, but worth going maybe if your staying for 2 weeks.
Overall excellent holiday, although the heat did get a bit much towards the final days... nice tan though!
