The actual apartment itself was lovely. The maintenance staff were lovely. But I can't recommend for a relaxing holiday or enjoyable time by the pool...

You could treat this resort as an 18 - 30 type of place or a family type of place. Because it's built in a narrow steep sided valley you will always have to negotiate steps and hills. It isn't suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs, elderly infirm or very young children.
There are plenty of level, flatter resorts offering the same level of entertainment as Puerto Rico that are more suitable for the less mobile.
It's unfair to criticise the place because of where it is!
Read the brochures and investigate on the web before you go - common sense surely?

We stayes in Puerto Rico that is a very nice place to stay it is not that noise. One of the Europa centre is just cross the road from Monte Paraiso. The Europa Centre has Bars,Restaraunts,Amusments,Shops and a children play park. We went and played mini golf That is just beside the Europa Centre.

OK it is very hilly and if you are located high up you will need a head for heights but views are superb. Resort centre lively with entertainment for all ages. Food good, varied, and inexpensive - if you like chinese there are 3 eat as much as you can for less than 5 euros per person, and bars with local beer at 1 euro per pint.
Plenty of shops all duty free. watch electronic shops unless you know the UK price of the goods you are buying. You will be expected to drive a bargain, and will be offered extras ie free watches - but may pay over the odds for the goods you wanted.
Time share a minor problem and if you are not interested smile, walk, and they will leave you alone. Same goes for the bars and eateries.
Beach very good and safe with all water sports available. Beds and brollies cost 7 euros per day for 2 beds and the brolley. Plenty of beach bars and takeaways - try the bagettes.

The resort was very nice. I do think the lighting needed attention on the steps leading to the centre, behind Linekers bar as bulbs had blown and I did fall down 3 steps and twisted ankle.
In places there were pieces of furniture and clothing dumped along walk ways.
The bottom shopping centre was very lively and restaurants and bars very good. More for the teenagers, we preferred the smaller centre at the top, more family orientated. The resort entertainment was very good.
The beaches were lovely and clean.

The beach is lovely with lots to do.
Don't bother buying the electrical goods, you'll tire yourself out haggling, and to be honest I teach computers and digital photography, the deals are not that good, and of course there are no guarantees, if anything goes wrong.
Book your trips yourself, to save some money.
BE VERY VERY AWARE OF THE TIMESHARE SALESMEN......

As with all Spanish resorts care must be taken on the pavements and roads, uneven and slippy when wet. Not too bad on the cleanliness side though.
The Commercial and Europa centres have all the bigger entertainments and restaurants. The better beach is the Ammadores which is a 2 Euro taxi ride but well worth it no pollution from diesel boats ideal for the children although the water does shelve slightly. Advantages of this beach is that there are fully equipped toilets for a charge of 1 Euro, which are kept exceptionally well. Plenty of bars, places to eat, shops and small walk in supermarket, lilos bathing equipment etc.
'Spencer's' excellent English, with German, Dutch, Irish, Scot and Italian never had a bad meal.'Harbour lights' bar left on the top veranda good beer and snacks. Ask these lads here for local info. Same veranda Chinese and Italian restaurants excellent.
On the harbour corner in front of the 'harbour lights' is a good restaurant but they seem to close early. All in all plenty to do places to see don't forget a trip to Puerto Mogan very, very busy with people on market day though its a must for a trip on the boat. We took the Salmon boats (green/white on the harbour)

The resort itself is not my cup of tea ,the same thing everywhere you went, and it wasnt that good either, found it really hard to find anywhere good to eat.
Taxis drive like mad,too hilly and very close too the edge of the hills there was a coach crash while we were there.
Parents please be aware of the henna tattoos, dont let the kids have them ,my daughter had one done in the Europa Centre and now she has a scar of the tattoo on her shoulder dont know if it will ever go. Watched Package Holidays from Hell tonight and some of these people dont use proper henna, they mix with hair dye which contains something that burns or scars the skin, and now my daughter will have an allergic reaction to it, so please be wary.

We didn't see much of the Puerto Rico resort, as we tended to spend most of the week travelling around Gran Canaria by car.
I think the highlight was the small port of Puerto de Mogan. It's a beautiful little fishing resort, with small bridges 'a la' Venice. There's a market on a Friday, which sells a mixture of local goods, and usual market tat! Be careful though, as a lot of stall holders like to haggle, almost pressuring you to buy their goods. If a trader tells you an item is a high price, refuse. I did that, and they soon came down to a price I was willing to pay for a few bits & pieces I wanted.
We also went on a trip that took us up the east coast to the Capital. The only problem was that we were the only English couple on the bus, and the rest were Spanish & Italian, so the majority of the tour was conducted in those two languages, until the guide remembered we were there! We visited the rum making factory, and the main spring water producing village. I can't remember the names of the places - but they were very picturesque. The rum at the factory was very reasonably priced, so I'd advise to buy all your alcohol there!! You can also try before you buy!
Sioux City is probably a better place in the evening....we went in the morning/afternoon, and it was dead! I would say, if your rep gives you the chance to book for the evening show, to do so, as it looks like it can get lively with lots of entertainment geared for then, plus a barbeque.
The Europa shopping centre/bars in Puerto Rico, is about a 10 minute walk away, and looks like it could get quite lively on an evening. There's 3 Nettos there, loads of restaurants, shops and a booking office to book your trips through. They are a bit cheaper than booking through the JMC reps.
Also, if you do have an accident requiring medical attention, the medical centre near the Europa centre, and one in the main commercial centre in Puerto Rico - be warned. They don't accept E111 forms and you have to have your insurance details to hand. I waited until I got home later that same day and went to a UK hospital.....I'd have been in the same amount of pain regardless of where I was!
All in all.....Gran Canaria is a nice looking place....but I much prefer Tenerife....
