Great hotel, any rooms from 3130 to 3149, 4130 to 4149 or 5130 to 5149 are the best, if available, but just don't book it with Love Holidays as their customer service and support is non existent.

2 years ago, we posted a review of hammamet in tunisia using an analogy to the eagles song hotel california, 'you can check in any time you like but can never leave'.
Well, we have found the equivalent in turkey!. Unless you want to visit the local small towns of turunc and icmeler, anything else was an effort.
The town itself [marmaris], has changed dramatically since marie visited 15 years previously. As it was my first time there, i found it to be like blackpool, but sunny.
Some of the local bars are really good, with 500ml bottles of efes beer at 5tl a bottle, its as cheap as our local wetherspoons!. One in particular springs to mind. We sat down, and ordered a couple of beers [as you do!], we smelled something wonderful. It turns out that one of the staff had a gas burner and was cooking their lunch. We asked what they were cooking and they told us, and we left it at that. To our amazement, 10mins later, a plate appeared with some of it for us!, we wanted to pay for it but they refused.
The boat trips we took were a bit haphazard. We went on a lazy day cruise on monday, which was, anything but!, mostly due to the dodgy reggae cd which was played on a loop for 7 hours, very loudly. What makes these folks think that is what is wanted on a lazy day, is beyond us!. Another trip was to turtle island and the dalyan tombs. When we started out, all was fine, as we progressed into the sea it became very choppy and most of the children aboard who had started laughing at the fairground ride, were laughing no more and were all horribly seasick. Personally, we don't think these boats are capable of going into open water in rough conditions. The tombs were wonderful, and we actually saw a huge turtle, but coming back we ran aground on a sandbank, as did another boat, we were rescued about 20 mins later. If, like me, you are no spring chicken, I found the prospect of leaping from one moving boat to another quite daunting, the stairs leading down to the toilets were also very steep!.
Eating out in the town was no problem. If you want english food, you can get it everywhere. Personally, local food was the order of the day. The best kebab we had was at the pillic evi kebab stall in the middle of the souk. It must have been good, locals were using it.
We decided to go to icmeler market on wednesday. If you want panhandling, thats the place to go. Everything was 'cheap as chips' or 'cheaper than shoplifting' or 'cheaper than asda price', their words not ours!!!!. After 30mins, our heads were beating like drums, so a cool sharp exit to a bar was the easiest option. If you want your fake gucci and prada bags etc, thats the place for you.
Overall, at this time of year, a nice place to get a bit of winter sun so close to home. Would we go to marmaris again? it was central to the area, but, as we do not like blackpool and are not 'break dancers', or interested in seeing blokes dressed as women, the entertainment really was not for us, so we ain't too sure. Would we visit turkey again though? absolutely we would. We have unfinished business [ephesus/pammakule].

marmaris is a great resort to stay in.plenty of bars and cafes on beach front.market on thursday in marmaris bit scary if you stop and look at anything they pull you in to buy.haggling is the norm and you really have to decide how much you want to pay and stick to it or walk away.the bazaar in the town is expensive and they will not haggle.watch if you buy cigarettes from anywhere that theyve a tag on them if they havent they are counterfeit so watch out. dont book trips with holiday reps get a better deal in the resort but shop around.boat trips are easily booked at the boats on the sea front and are really relaxing and a nice way to see the beautiful coastline.jeep safari good way to see the countryside.mud baths at dalyan good fun.pummakkale excellent but a long drive from marmaris early start about 7.00am returning about 8.00pm.including breakfast, lunch stop at carpet factory(sales pitch)and then onto pummakkale.cleopatra pool there is extra 23lira each not included in trip but really good.
