Near the Andorra are a group of bars. Check out The Soul Bar. Also The Restaurant Margarita -really good food. Great music especially by Mikey Mike who works in both places.

All rooms are good in this quite hotel with most having sea views
Avoid booking a studio without stipulating 'NOT FACING THE WALL' as we were allocated a room looking directly at a high wall 12' from our balcony even although we had requested a sea or pool view. Check directly with the hotel well in advance.

We visited the beach twice, once of an evening and once during the day.
Both times were very enjoyable. I was alone with three children so kept away from the busy night life but we were still able to eat out in a holiday atmosphere.
Both times we visited the beach area we were left alone by the time share people (only saw two anyway) we were approached twice by the looky looky men but again the happily left us alone.
There is a wide variety of shops reasturant etc,you could spend hours there.
We visited the market but left after a short time as it was very very busy, people pushing and shoving not a nice experience at all.
I would go back here anytime !

Lots of places to eat, great chinese restaurant opposite the hotel really cheap and good food. Friendly staff. Child friendly. Rum pot for the evenings about 3 mins walk from hotel. Fun entertainment, bingo, singing (abba) etc.. child friendly bar.
Lots of supermarkets, restuarants, bars, beach, all walking distance. Nice marina. Loads of stuff for the kids they loved it.
Had a whole day at Skypark. childred under 6 go free. Adults £10 which includes a great BBQ. Trampolines, clown and a show, slides, good kids pool, adults pool. Again walking distance. Lots of life guards to watch over kids. Very clean there to.
Bit of a steep and slippery slope next to hotel which we used to get to the beach. Plenty of lunch time restaurants also very reasonable and good quality food.

Beaches not recommended for very young kids.
Be careful booking excursions through shops. We booked for waterpark and we were given bus departure time and free lunchtime barbecue only to discover bus did not operate until high season so we needed to pay for taxis and same applied to barbecue lunch. Needless to say this doubled the cost of our day out.
Otherwise very clean and friendly resort.
Only other recommendation would be that since most families with kids travel outside of school hol periods due to cost it would be of great advantage to have some kids entertainment in some of the bars and reataurants in early evenings.

This resort has something for everyone, but pick the right time of the year for you. April / May is great for anyone but I imagine the summer season can be noisy and crowded. There are loads of bars, clubs and restaurants with reasonable prices and most have some form of entertainment, sometimes live.
The resort was marked down for cleanliness mainly due to the need to keep your eyes peeled for dogs mess on the footpaths.
The major drawback of the resort is the numerous timeshare touts, sorry not timeshare, its illegal on the island, who roam the resort on behalf of the "tenerife tourist board" and other quite bizzare organisations giving you the chance to win fantastic prizes on scratch cards in exchange for visiting, a shopping centre, a holiday company etc. This year I even saw them following a elderly couple, one in a wheelchair, the length of the promenade.

Las Americas was very English with the usual shops along the front. Plenty of looky looky men about, they just don't leave you alone, watch out for the scratchcard guys they seem to be everywhere too.
The beach wasn't very nice either but if you walk along to Los Cristinos the beach is lovely and the restaurants are a lot better.
There was nothing Spanish about Las Americas, you feel as if it's an English seaside town.

Playa de las Americas, is a good all round holiday. Over the years, I have seen a decline in cleanliness and the closure of many bars, especially the Veronicas, but now the government is cleaning up the area again, the bars have had to clean up their act, bars near hotel/appts have to close down their music at midnight now, but you can still get a drink!
The pools have lifeguards now, and the beaches are looking cleaner. The new walkway along the whole beach is nearly finished and is looking good. I stay away from Veronicas area at nighttime, but their is plenty of nice bars and entertainment in other areas. Christmas and new year is brilliant too.

Well, we didn't like the idea of resort town too much because we wanted to see the locals.
But the weather in southwest of Tenerife seems to be the best and very easy to get around to see and do other things.
For those who enjoy relaxing on the pool or the beach and little bit of shopping holiday, the Playa de las Americas resort town should be very fine.
The resort is well equipped for wheelchairs (I have seen so many people on the wheelchairs there), clean, very well decorated with the volcanic rocks...so pretty.
The beach was black which didn't worry us at all and the sheltered beach was so nice and calm.
At the same time, the unsheltered beaches were so great for the surfing. We couldn't do it 'cause of our daughter but it's so exciting even just watching them surfing.

This was my first visit and I was very impressed with playa de las americas. It was clean and well kept. Entertainment was in abundance - lots of tribute acts ranging from Cher to Meatloaf to Chubby Brown.
One particular bar kept us going back for more - it simply was the best bar in all the bars we tried - which was St. Eugenes near San Eugenes shopping centre. This bar had acts on all night, the compere was so funny and welcoming. The drinks were on average with most places and gave good measures.
Along this street were maybe a dozen bars all worth a drink in - Rum Pot, Snoopy's and an irish bar down some stairs which name I cant remember (played live music from 11pm).
Theres plenty of restaurants - loads of chinese restaurants offering all you can eat buffets for 5 - 6 euros. The one we visited was very nice and constantly replenished.
Most of the beaches arnt very pretty to look at but the beach at Porto Colon was far the best with bright clean sand as opposed to the dark sand on the other beaches. Sun beds are a bit pricy at 12 euros for 2 beds!!
Of course the touts were out in force. Simply say no thank you and walk on (not that they listen). Some timeshare/property touts offer scratch cards - of course every card is a winner.
Bargains - electronic goods - i.e. digital comcorders. We bought a digital camcorder with built in digital camera and MP3 player (8m pixel, 256MB memory card, charger etc) for approx £130. Haggle with them. We got at least 120 euros off the starting price plus extra memory.
Cigs and booze are cheap. 200 L&B = £12. 200 Local cigs = £4!! Litre of spirits = £4.
Would go again or maybe to los christianos.
Hope you enjoy - I certainly did.

This is a very family orientated resort with plenty of bars and restaurants with all foods catered for.
The promenade was very clean with beach bars on the sand and at night these were lovely to relax on and watch the waves come in.
Visit the Original Wigan Pier below the Esmerelda hotel, very friendly and cheap exc British food and a good Britsh fish and chips next door open till 4am.
The beaches are very safe and clean with exc facilities.
his is our 12th year at this resort it has something for all ages far enough away from Las Americas but close enough to walk if you feel energetic (20 mins max)
Sun, sea, sand and value for money you will not be disappointed.
