Near the Andorra are a group of bars. Check out The Soul Bar. Also The Restaurant Margarita -really good food. Great music especially by Mikey Mike who works in both places.

Avoid booking a studio without stipulating 'NOT FACING THE WALL' as we were allocated a room looking directly at a high wall 12' from our balcony even although we had requested a sea or pool view. Check directly with the hotel well in advance.
All rooms are good in this quite hotel with most having sea views

Even though we only went to an English bar call The Pub there was a good variety of pubs and restaurants around.
The beach was black sand but a good size and very well kept.

The resort is clean with lots of bars and places to eat. We had fantastic meals at Rossinis near San Euginio the Slow Boat on Porto Colon and the good old Wigan Pier Bar.
The Beach is ok but a bit like sunbathing in an ashtray. We prefer the pool areas.
Love Tenerife and intend to visit again in October but plan to go to Costa Adeje. Its a more classy resort.

Playa de las Americas does not deserve the bad press it has got, we found the resort to be clean and friendly. The bar area Veronicas was a lot of fun and although you have got the PR guys, we used them to our advantage to get good deals on drinks! I was not offered a scratch card the whole time I was there, although I did see someone trying to sell them, and only got offered flowers by a flower lady once. There were a few guys trying to sell watches etc, but they didn't hassle us at all.
The beaches were also clean and tidy.
The weather was fantastic when we stayed!

The promenade is fantastic for people with buggies.
One day we walked from costa Adeje to Playa Santiago, it took us virtually all day, and it was a good way to spend a cloudy day. If you like your walking then I definately recommend this area.
The prom is also very busy early morning with joggers
The shops situated along the prom are very good at NOT hassling you too much you get the usual electrical shops and the staff were pretty good.
We found though that they are not as cheap as they once were, so do your research first if you fancy buying a camera. Shockingly we could buy ours cheaper from Curry's?
The beaches were very pleasent and very clean, children were able to paddle safely in the sea.
Costa Adeje is definately and up and coming resort,Very quickly this will become the place to go in Tenerife, they are building fantastic hotels, shops and apartments, and with shops like Gucci, and Dior, it is clear the people they want to attract.

Resort cleanliness wasnt that good but to be honest i wasnt here for the daytime, i only ventured out when it got dark as this was a clubbin holiday.
Beach was clack sand so gets very hot, best going up to Los Cristianos as it has imported sand from the Sahara.
Look out for 'Looky looky men' (Africans trying to flog watches etc) If your firm the'll leave you alone but do NOT shake there hand when they offer it, thats a wak of agreeing a deal with them and if you dont play up they might have ya in an alley!

the resort itself was clean, its quiet and entertainment appears to be in the hotels, shows etc. there is a lovely chinese slow boat restaurant in the shopping centre el duque, there are shopping centres and shops a short walk away, and i cant comment on the beach except the beach at fanabe looked nice, which is about 10-15 minute walk.

Tenerife has something for everybody old and young. Lively or dull. I have been 8 times in the last 4 years and it is like a 2nd home. The weather is virtually perfect. even on the cloudier days which are rare the temperature is still very high.
Loads of excursions are readily available with loads of kiosks ready to help you arrange one. Mount Teide is well worth a day trip to appreciate the different climates and vegetation on the island as well as the most fabulous views from a 12000 ft mountain. Loads of boat trips taking you to see whales and dolphins - try to get on on which takes you to Los Gigantes and Masca rather than just a couple of miles out to sea and back. Puerto de la Cruz is a beautiful town to visit and home to the Loro Parque which is worth a day of anyones time.
Entertainment is varied in and around LAS Americas. The veronicas strip is for young lively singles and groups whereas the surrounding areas Los Cristianos San Eugenio Torviscas etc are full of live enterainment for all the family. My parents have been 5 times with us and are by no means party animals being both in their early 60's but they love the place as much as myself and my family and have been entertained greatly by the variety of acts around town. St Eugenes (www.mikecarltontenerife.com) is the best bar in town. The compere is superb - visit the guestbook on his website and there are numerous top quality acts every night of the week. If you like live music you should dig out a group called the lizard kings. Summer 2004 they play a bar called Moonlight near to torviscas market but if they have moved on they are well worth tracking down - it wont be difficult.
If you visit tenerife because you love beaches you will most likely be disappointed. The beaches are volcanic sand which is perfectly clean and there are laods of watersport activites available. The best beach in the south is the man made beach at Los Cristianos called Playa de las Vistas which is made from imported Sahara desert sand and stretches for a good way around the promenade.
Beware of scratchcard sellers - they are to be found near veronicas and around the markets. They all lead to timeshare rip offs - just say no and walk away. Loads of african looky looky men selling sunglasses and fake watches. Actually the watches generally sell for about €20 and are decent enough quality - mine is still working anyway. If you dont want to buy just laugh and walk away they will laugh back at you and carry on their business. I quite enjoy them actually coz they all have smiles which make you happy. I would miss the looky looky men if they weren't there!!!
Enjoy your time in tenerife
