Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Albufeira, on the whole is quite clean but some of the streets could do with a good sweep. I've never seen so many discarded cigarette ends in my life.
Entertainment wise, there is something for everyone here. The Strip mainly caters for the young and lively, although there is a smattering of family type bars and karaoke bars. We personally preferred the Old Town with it's plethora of quaint little streets bursting with cafe bars, shops, restaurants, singers, entertainers etc. The main square comes alive at night with puppeteers, clowns, balloon artists etc. Something for everyone.Fabulous.
The beaches are a succession of pretty little coves and were surprising clean considering it was high season and quit crowded.
I would visit this resort again but, being of a certain age, would probably go at a less busy time.

We liked Albufeira old town very much. (the new town is our idea of hell but we aren't the right age!) The old town is really lovely, the shops, bars, restaurants. The new marina is beautiful and well worth a visit. You can walk along the beach for miles and the beach is wonderful. There is loads to do, lots of excursions and activities. Johnny Hooper's saxophone bistro is a must, great party night. We'd like to go back there one day.

Albufeira is beautiful. The new town "the strip" was the same as any other strip. My husband could not believe the amount of times he was offered drugs here, as the dealers would casually walk down the street with blocks of harch in their hands or pat their pockets and offer "charlie-charlie".
Much prefered the old town where there was some lovely little pubs and resturants and the beach was really nice.

Albufeira is fabulous but need a cardi begining of May can get cold, we only cruised around the shops once unusual for us as we found that prices have doubled, we always enjoyed shopping in Portugal but find it cheaper and better quality in UK so we had more money than usual to go home with, you need to take out insurance to deal with the pavements, dangerously uneven and slippery so don't think of wearing wedges or high heels or you will be too busy watching where you are going to see anything else.

Albufeira is a loverly resort with stuff to do for everyone. The hotel we stayed in was about 15 minutes walk to either "The Old Town" or "The Strip". The Old Town is as it sounds the Old part of Albufeira, and this is where Fishermans Beach is, where you can sun bath all day long, there is a small charge for the loungers and umbrellas 2.45 euros each per day. The town has lots of Tavernas so you have a good choice of places to eat, there is also the square where at night there are different preformers puppet shows, jazz, ethnic groups etc. We used the tavernas that were down some of the back streets, as these were a lot cheaper than the ones in the square and were just as good if not better.
The Strip is as it says The Strip, this is one long road with bars running the entire length, each one trying to out do the next, fine if you are one a pub crawl or stag/hen do, but as we are a bit more mature we didnt take to the music blaring out of all of them, but fine for the younger generation. Near to the top of the street if you cross over the two busy roads you will find a small square on the right after about a 5 minute walk, here are some nice reasonably price tavernas that do great value meals, we went out one night and had soup, main course, pudding, 1 bottle of wine and 2 fizzy drinks all for 24 Euro, bargain of the holiday and good food to.
Now onto the transportation, Walking was fine, but sometimes you just need to take it nice and slow, so we went on the tourist train, we bought all day tickets at 3.50 euros as we knew we would be using the train again later on in the evening, got on the train in the Old Town the train was quite hot and we had to wait for it to fill up, then the train gets going and the first stop was between the old town and the strip, we did not get off here as we thought the train made many stops (This stop was about 500 meters from our hotel), well no it doesnt, so we had to travel all the wy to the strip, back to the old town and get off it when it stopped half way between the two, so remember it only stops 3 times. The taxis are a real bargain if you are traveling locally, the cost is only 3.10 euros if you get them from the Taxi ranks, if you want to be picked up from the hotel or dropped off at the hotel the the charge is .80 euro on top of the price. The buses are OK, just that we did not know where to catch them from so never went on them.
at the very bottom of the strip ther is a really nice beach which would be well worth spending a day at, you do get hassle from the men selling sun glasses, watches etc, but just say No and they go away.
All in all a very nice safe resort, if you want to know details of any of the restaurants we ate at then please let us know via email and we would be pleased to give you the low down on the best value for money ones and ones to avoid.
