Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Nice clean resort. Lots of bars and live bands to chose from and plenty of nice restaurants. Bit more upmarket than the neighbouring "Strip". certainly less in the way of Karaoke bars and football tops, which we were grateful for. Stay away from the main square for restaurants. Poor quality and over priced. Lots of nicer ones in surrounding streets.
Only donside: A lot of people begging with children and dogs to increase your sympathy. Police did little to move them on.

Albufeira is brilliant. A great mix of old and new.
The Strip is perfect for having a noisy night out with a dance whereas the Old Town allows you to relax and watch the world go by.

i love the laid back atmosphere of the old town, although the
stone pavements can be a little slippery when walking.

The resort was tidy as it looks new and is still having building work done.
Cannot really comment on the beach as it was really too far to walk on an evening being in the middle of nowhere, a bit spooky.
There are a lot of nice restaurants but need a car to get to them.

Sao Joao was very clean and had plenty of bars and restaurants to visit, something to do for all ages.

In a quiet area but could get to the busier resorts on buses or taxis.
A few shops and restaurants down the road.
A free bus took you to the beach which was very windy, lovely beach but i like a few cafes and bars within easy reach of my sunbed.

My first time to Portugal and I was pleasantly surprised , a lovely mixture of entertainment for all ages , from street entertainers , to bars with rock bands playing , and bars with a singer playing acoustic guitar and singing oldies. Nice clean beaches and some wonderful restaurants.
Never before have I seen street cleaners out late at night like in this resort ...spot on.

Albufeira is a very lively resort which is great for young people, couples, and families alike. Some people compare the strip with Blackpool and coming from there myself i have to agree with them. It could be considered slightly tacky, there are plenty of disco bars and brit pub food "restaurants" which show coronation street, eastenders and big brother every night.
I much prefer the Old Town which is a lot more relaxed and laid back with live music and its little bars and restaurants which are great for people watching.
If your staying in the strip area of Albufeira you can either get a taxi to the old town which never costs more than 5 euros or you can get the tourist train which is 3 euros for a day pass. I would not reccomend walking it, me and my boyfriend did try it but it took us ages and it was tiring in the heat.
I would reccommend albufeira to anyone, if you like things quite lively and plenty of english pub food then the strip is for you, however if you like things a bit more laid back then definatley try the old town.
