Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

I would recommend the Old Town in Albefeira over the area near the Strip, but the Strip was okay in May. I think it could get rowdy in the summer. The old town is pedestrianised with loads of good resturants, shops bars and street entertainers. The nearby beach, called Fishermans Beach is lovely.

I can't really give much comment on Albufeira as we ventured into the main town only a couple times. The food in the town centre was great but the service wasn't much good - we went to the smaller, more local restaurants where we had fantastic food and service... and tried the local dishes - espec. 'Cataplana'...
There are so many beaches to head to- we found a smaller beach up the coast which was beautiful but we mainly explored the Algarve itself rather than Albufeira.. which we found to be rather built-up for us... but that's not really a criticism - more a matter of taste.
I would fully recommend travelling to Silves to see the old town and castle - and also trying the 'Quadventura' excursion.. that was the best thing we did all holiday.
The complex was a bit further out from town, as the other reviews have said, but we actually chose it because of the location. It was a long walk down to town but a very steep walk back up!!
We fully made use of the hire cars!
All-in-all it was a great holiday - really good value for money, great weather, great food and much to explore.

The resort is between Vilamoura & albefuria. A short walk from the hotel is a small square with a supermarket, a few gift shops, several restuarants and bars! If you are looking for a lively nightlife this is not the place for you. The beach is a few minuteswalk also downhill but it is accessed by quite a few steps so not so good on the way up. Everything you need on your doorstep but if your looking for a busier nighlife the other two resorts are only 10 minutes away.

We stayed at this hotel in may 07 and found the room very spacious, they were cleaned every day nothing was too much trouble for the staff on reception.
The pool side cafe was fab for breakfast with a hangover.
All the staff in the bar were friendly and we felt comfortable taking the kids in until all hours.
I cant wait to visit again to catch up with Rachael,Oscar and Rob plus all the other staff.

Resort was ok, still a little quite in April, we were not far from the strip the streets are well lit at night.
Plenty of places to eat and drink. Beach was a pleasant walk from hotel.
The old town is a little away but we walked in a few times, a good bus service also runs every half hour and only costs 1 euro.
Taxis costs 5 Euros back at night when the buses have stopped.
Albuferia old town was getting a face lift and was just like a building site alot of places down on the front were closed because of this.

Much preferred the old town as it has so much character compared to the new town which i.m.o. has none. The redeveloped pedestrian zone is great (apart from the bit that isn't finished yet of course!) and there were street cleaners on regular patrol.
Plenty of very reasonably priced bars and restaurants to choice from and we thought, overall, it was much cheaper than most Spanish resorts we have been to in the past. Only exception being Restaurant Alfa, under Alfa Commercial Centre who totally ripped us off - Dont go.
The beach was beautiful and was cleaned daily. It isn't filled up with sun beds and parasols for hire. Some might call this disadvantage, but it looks so much nicer without them.
The only thing that irritated us were the number of waiters and PRs all trying to get you to come to their restaurant, and the band of 5-6 scratch card / time share touts who have trouble understanding the word "No". But we were in Tenerife last summer and at least it was no where near as bad as that!
But we had a lovely holiday.
