Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Beaches

The beaches are well maintained but the pathways have a problem with dog dirt from the amount of stray dogs roaming around. The entertainment on the strip is like Blackpool and there were numerous fights. The town caters more to the older tourists.

Lively and busy place to go. Great for eating out, bars etc. Not very good for buggies/ wheelchairs. Great beaches. Lots of tourist shops and close to other attractions. Zoo marina is great for kids.

Hotel situated half way between strip and old town. If you,re young the strip is for you. only about 15 min walk from hotel. Turn left out of hotel and you will be in town in about 10 mins. Nice walk and old town is lovely. Bars with live music, little shops and street entertainment. We would definately go back to Albufeira and to the Paraiso.

We visit this resort several times a year summer and winter. If you want peace and quiet go to the older areas and avoid the strip. If you like to party the strip is for you.
We have never in ten years been approached by gypsies or similar, the biggest irritant are the time share touts.
As for the guy who had ÂŁ2000 pounds worth of jewelery taken, read your travel info before leaving it is strongly advised not to wear visable expensive jewels etc.

As for Albufeira itself - what a dump. If you want to sunbathe all day and get pissed all night, then its the place for you. If however, you want to sightsee, visit clutural sights, and find family friendly parks/places then forget it. Albufeira is for the lager-louts and only for them. Walking around the Old-town and the Strip is a nightmare with restaurant hawkers constantly pestering you to visit their establishments, and with street-peddlars trying to sell you cheap watches and sunglasses (which are actually a front for selling drugs) on my first day, the first 5 peddlars all offered to sell me all sorts of substances. As I was there with my 2 young children, you can imagine this was a nightmare, and a bit alarming.

We were in Albufeira in April which, with temps of about 20-22 degrees, was perfect. Very few people around - restaurants were never busy and shops etc were just waking up for the season. Don't think I would care to be there in high season.
Beach is fabulous.
Not much to do culturally. Your only decision will be where to have dinner. Restaurant hustlers generally good natured and all service is excellent. Never had a bad meal.
Beware the practice of plonking down 'couvert' as you order your meal. You may think that they are very kindly providing nibbles (bread, olives, sardine pate, cheese etc) for you to enjoy with your drinks, but BEWARE, you will be charged. Just say no when they approach your table and don't forget to check your bill cos sometimes they will still charge you. We got stung for about 10 euros worth which makes a meal quite expensive.

The resort was excellent and near to the Strip where all the restaurants and night-life are. The drinks are cheap during Happy Hour and cater for all tastes and ages, most offering children's cocktails, which my daughter thought was great!

the old town as changed a lot in the last visit(2 years, a lot of building work going on. but its still friendly. car hire is a must to get about, but petrol is about the same price as here, so can be costly

Been to Albufeira 5 times and if you stay away from the strip you'll be fine.
We ate away from the touristy places in the side streets with locals and it was fantastic!

the old town of albefeira, is charming with cobbled streets and local resturants, if you want british bars showing soaps then go to the new town, in the evening there is nothing to do unless you want a meal in a local restuarant, there are on e or two bars showing english football, but not much else. for a rest during the winter this resort is ideal.
