Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Very disappointed witht he selection of shops in the main strip and old town. Found every other shop to be selling the same kind of stuff. Did not find much of a comparison in price to items at home for lladro, nao and crystal. Perfume was not much cheaper or beauty products.
Beach was clean and the general standard of the resort was good.

Stayed halfway between old town and the strip so visited both frequently.
Old town is quaint in some areas but noisy and bustling in others! there is something for everyone here. Beach is spotless but sometimes the sea can be quite rough so watch out. loads of fantastic restaurants, some with superb views of the coastline.
The strip isnt as rowdy as some might think, discos and theme bars are clustered together making it easy to distance yourself from them if youre looking for a quieter night. during the day the resort is very relaxed, with some good shops to visit and a gorgeous clean beach within easy walking distance.
Overall both resorts are lovely but very different so try to visit both if you can!

The strip is really good for families to find somewhere nice to eat, there is a nice feel good factor about it, and a really good atmosphere,we were there during the world cup and can have no complaints, cant comment on the beach as I didnt go, there was enough to do by the pool.

Would definitely go back although preferred 'Old Town' rather than the 'strip' - had more of a continental feel about it.

Albufeira a good base for exploring a little further afield - Villamoura and Lagos both recommended. Getting about in a hire car is easy, and less scary than many other european countries (Italy springs to mind...)

The resort itself is lovely, very central, located right by the strip, which houses every type of restaurant/bar you can want.
The best restaurant we found was out of the resort, turn right, over the cross roads and keep going straight until you reach Martinque, Montechoro end, it is lovely and the sangria is even better. Other places to eat, well you will be inundated with people handing you menus but we ate in tom and jerries, senyor frogs, liza pizza, mr menu, coconuts, pizza hut and mcdonalds ( you can get a bus that takes you there, only 3 euros for the day and use is unlimited, bargain) this bus also takes you to the old town and beach there is lovely, as is the beach in albufeira a short walk down cardiac hill, which actually isnt as bad as everyone makes out.
The entertainment around the pool was good, if you like games and quizes, crazy j and gem blast their music at you, the pool is deep, has 3 diving boards, and there is also a paddling pool for the toddlers.
I would suggest you taking arm bands with you as alot of the young kids did go in the deep pool with the bands on, there are also countless shops were you can buy inflatables, you will be spoilt for choice with dolphins, crocodiles, lilos etc etc. your kids will nag you until you buy one, trust me,.
On the whole a really good holiday, kids loved it, there is eve entertainment in the casablanca bar and if you dont know the thomson dog dance you will by the end of your stay, very annoying. would we go back, possibly if they improved on their bedding arrangements.

The old town during our stay was a building site as you had to clamber over stones ,sand drainage materials the good news it will be finished by X mas dont know what year.
The streets were generally dirty in both the old town and the strip.
Beware of the touts they dont know when to give up, also beware of the beggars in the strip they have young children
with shoe boxes going round bars and restaurants grabing you saying Money Money Money!
On the good side the beach is beautiful and restaurants are all extremely good.

The resort is exceptionally clean and you can see them out everyday moping the cobbles.Entertainment is varied you can spend your time in the strip or go along to old town with a bit more olde world feel to it.Lots of excellent restuarants and every visit uncovers another few.Beaches are the best ever.We love this resort after years in the canaries and spain this is a fresh clean change and the people are lovely.Id go back every couple of months if i could afford it.

The location is good – being away from bustling nightlife but a nice 20 – 25 minute stroll away from the main ‘strip’ of very english bars and restaurants if you want them. I see most people have moaned a lot about the walk into town, but we are not lazy and enjoyed the walking even with 2 pushchairs! If you find it preferable to be in the town itself then you have to put up with the noise so it’s a choice between the two. The old town is much nicer with much more character and better restaurants, and is a 5 –10 minute taxi ride away for about 4 – 5 euros and is well worth a visit both day or night.
There are 2 beaches nearby, one where you turn left at the main road out of the hotel, turn right at the garage and follow the road down to the beach. Then there is the Santa Eualia beach if you turn right at the main road and then left when signposted – this is a bit further than the other but only about a 15 minute walk which we managed ok with 2 pushchairs! The beaches are nice but the only thing that put us off was that there is little shade, which you especially need if you have little children, and they charged us 10 – 12 Euros (about 9 – 10 pounds) for the hire of 2 sunbeds and a parasol. Best throw your towels on the sand and buy your own umbrella to sit under at those extortionate prices!!!
All in all, these apartments are the best self catering apartments we have stayed in and there is plenty for kids to do. Overall a good holiday and although I wouldn’t return as I don’t like to go to the same place twice – I would recommend it to families looking for self catering accommodation in the Algarve!
