Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

The strip was the usual mixture of restaurants and bars offering all sorts from Karaoke, Live bands, Sports etc.. Not for me but lots of choice for others. The kids did enjoy the little train ride around town. I didn't find the timeshare touts to be half as rude as ones in other resorts. These ones seem to be so polite when you said No Thanks!
There are some lovely beaches around, we favoured Santa Eulalia as it was near our accomodation but Fishermans is gorgeous too.
I would visit this resort again but i'd probably steer well clear of the strip and stick to the old town as you felt like you were in another country when you were there and not just any old resort. The old town is having a facelift at the moment and i would advise any girlies going in the near future to wear flat shoes when visiting there as i wore heels and kept getting stuck in pot holes and cracks in the pavement. It didn't put me off though so don't be put off yourself.
I went for a day out to Villamoura and liked the look of that, bit posher than Albufeira, might try that next time if the budget can stretch that far!

We stayed at the Solar de Sao Joao apartments, which are situated in the quieter Sao Joao area, but we were only a short distance from the "Strip" in Montechoro.
Plently of shops, restaurants and nightlife on the strip and plenty going on at night.
Found eating out to be very reasonable and mostly good quality. Senor Froggs was brilliant if you enjoy pizzas and pasta.
Praia da Oura beach is lovely, very clean.
A few timeshare touts about, the usual scratch cards, but a polite NO always seemed to work.
We took the tourist train into Albufeira old town, 12euros for 2 adults and 3 children for a day return. To be honest, I wish we hadn't bothered. There were diggers and lorries everywhere. Aparently they are carrying out major work on the square in Albufeira and most of the pavements have been dug up.
We weren't impressed with Fishermen's beach either. It was very dirty and a bad smell of sewage everywhere, probably due to the building works. A lot of the shops in the old town are now derelict. We were glad we had picked Montechoro for our stay.
Would definitely return to the Algarve, but would stay in Montechoro again, definitely not the old town!

There are loads of restaurants to choose from, each taking a different night off per week, so always somewhere to go. The locals are fantastic, friendly and always looking to please. There is a bus stop close by where you can take a bus to Albuferia or Faro.
Other parts of the Algarve are now spoilt with building work, Olhos D'Agua certainly has kept it's original charm and beauty.
My friend & I have now been here 4 times and plan to go again in 2007. Travelling without male escorts, we certainly feel safe here - even late at night.
In summary - perfect for those looking for a complete rest. Enjoy..........

We found the Algarve to be spotless, even the airport was clean and tidy.
Having the strip so close was a real benefit, with restaurants, bars and clubs, something for everyone.
The beaches in the Algarve were the cleanest we have been to, lovely shores and beautiful sand, perfect.

Albufera is simply stunning both the old town with its fantastic architecture, stunning beach and restaurants. The new town where the strip is situated is also a lovely place to visit although the pubs and clubs attract a certain holiday maker we found it very clean and inviting to all. Just a lovely place. A must see.

Wonderful, clean resort with very friendly shops, bars and locals.
Only annoyance were the predominatly Cockney timeshare pushers on the strip and around the market square, but you can't blame the locals for our horrible export. Don't accept their scratchcards - they will hide behind stories of festival or shop promotions, but it is timeshare every time.
Market square is being dug up at the moment and looks a bit of a tip, but head for beautiful Fisherman's Beach or the charming old town instead.

The Beach is breathtaking, We were metres away from Praia de Oura and it can bring a tear to your eye! The strip in Montechoro is overflowing with a good mix of bars from Karaoke to classy wine bars. There is a good assortment of restaurants and i would definately recommend Senhor frogs and the great indian tandoori, both have food to die for! There is a 'wally trolley'! (Miniture train) that will take you shopping or to Old albufeira and only costs 1 Euro. The cliffs are great to walk and there is a catamaran available everyday from the new marina.
It is the kind of resort that has something for everyone!

Resort quiet but it was March.
Lots of elders. Nice beach 10 mins walk away. plenty of eating places there, and supermarkets. Lots of people walking around with broken arms and leg type injuries, but most of that I think are the slippery tiles and pavements and the pavements are bad anyway, tiles missing and uneven etc, not suitable for people who are unsure on feet or bad eyesight.
Local hospitals are basic and its all very different than here. You are wise to take out travel insurance out before you go.

visited albuferia last year and it was ideal, unfortunately this year the old town square has been completely dug up and most of the side streets for sewage repair works. it's a shame. the street musicians now play on the front just above fishermans beach.still when work is completed which should be fairly soon one hopes. it will be a lovely place to visit agin.don't be put off tho there is still plenty to see and do.

First time to Albufeira and we were so impressed we've already booked to go back in the summer and are taking our friends.
We stayed at the Vila Petra (just off the strip) fantastic accommodation and ideally located. We had surprisingly good weather for March and I never expected to get such a good tan in just a week. We enjoyed eating at Senhor Frogs for pizza - they have a great lunchtime deal there for garlic bread and pizza less than 5 euros. Also good were the Sizzling Stone and Koala Garden. Wouldn't recommend El Rancho though ate there first night and were less than impressed with the food and service. But, saying that, everywhere else was great and the people are very friendly.
Timeshare seems to be a bit of a problem but we didn't find it too bad - they don't hassle you if you just say no.
Shame that the old town was just a building site while we were there but looking forward to seeing it finished when we get back - fingers crossed!
