Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Praia Da Oura, the resort we stayed at on the Algarve,we found to be very commercialised. The renowned "Strip",a long street full of Restuarants, bars and nightclubs exciting to start with, but once is enough!
Blaring music and neon lights for a mile would be appreciated by someone far younger than me.Not many locals around, mainly tourists and touts, and canvasers trying to get you to eat in various establishments, offering fabulous discounts if you do.
All of the surrounding streets were lined with apartments and hotels.Couldn't see where the locals might live. This was not really what I imagined Portugal to be like.
A bus which looked like a little train circulated between Praia Da Oura and neighbouring Albufiera every 20mins or so,Albufiera was much more authentic with its narrow streets and beatiful square.
Praia Da Oura beach however was beautiful.Wonderful golden sands and rugged golden cliffs with the atlantic ocean lapping onto it.Sun beds and sunshades could be rented for 7.5 euros a day.Beach restuarants/cafes unobtrusive and quiet.
Had a day trip to slide and splash waterpark(the only one left open in October) which was brilliant.Coach picked us up at the apartment at 0930,took 45mins to get to waterpark, and returned us by 1700hrs.
I would visit a quieter, less commercialsed part of the Algarve again, but not Oura as in my view it is more suited to 18-30's(singles)

The resort was reasonably clean although there did appear to be quite a bit of broken glass around at times (and dog muck)on side roads.
There is a good variety of places to eat and drink.
We eat on the strip most of the time but also took the land train into the old town a few nights. Kids enjoyed the puppet show and live music in the old town main square.
We went to the beach (praia da oura) nearly every day, it was very clean with toilets and showers available.
Enjoyed exploring the rock pools and caves when the tide was out and also walked part of the cliff top walk. Excellent sand for building sandcastles!
We also visited zoomarine - good day out.

I loved the old town - the market square was very attractive and full of atmosphere and the beaches were cleaned every morning. There was a group of red indians playing music in the square which was fantastic other than that entertainment consisted mainly of eating, drinking, listening to music or watching sport on TV's. We didn't visit the new part much. Unfortunately there was a lot of road and building repair going on when we were there which took the shine off the place - this is probly due to the time of year we were there.

The strip itself was lovely, every restaurant we ate at was exceptional. The prices were very reasonable in everyone of them and the meals were all of a very high quality.
We did tend to stay at one end of the strip however, as once past the kilt and kelt it seemed to just be sports bars, and with two very young children there wasn't a lot to interest us up there.
We did venture up there on the Thursday though and were constantly accosted by scratchcard touts. These did rather spoil the day as in 85 deree heat you dont want to be hassled into going with them to claim prizes your supposed to have won. Give them a wide berth.
I'm afraid we didn't get as far as the beach on cardiac hill thanks to thes scratchcard chaps, I got fed up and went back to the strip so I dont know what the beach was like, however, we did go to the beach in the old town , afraid to say that we didn't like it, jammed in like sardines and the guy renting out sunbeds tried to charge us 50 euros.
Must say didn't really like the old town much either, prices more inflated than on the strip too.
We did like the Porugese people a lot they really like children and make a real fuss of them and even if I went out along the strip alone it feels really safe.

There is a little train which takes you to the old town or the strip for 2euros one way or 3 euros for all day. It can be a little here, but if you look around you will find some good value food places.
The beaches are lovely, there's fishermans beach and another beach. One at the old town and one at the strip. However, the beach at the old town was disapointing because it had dogs running about, pooing everywhere!!
The old town is an idyllic, quaint little place. Lovely for a stroll in the evening and to have a relaxing meal or drink. It's a shame about the homeless, there was a lady breastfeeding a baby on the street, whilst begging!!
The strip is a bit bashy, more for the livelier holiday makers. It's full of bars, clubs and shops!!!
I did like this resort, but more for the trips than just Albufeira. A trip to Loule is a must. There is a market there and it is like the old town, but bigger and nicer with ancient places to visit.
We would return, but using it more as a base than a holiday stay. there are some gorgeous hotels, and we were stuck in the middle of them in a dump!!

Loads to do here for everyone and we were up the top of the strip and enjoyed the 'not too rowdy' bars.
Transport was good with plenty of taxis - expect on the cloudy day where it took an hour to get a taxi back from Algarve Shopping - pre order if possible. Algarve Shopping was excellent, especially the Nike outlet store in the retail park.
We ate in restaurants recommended to us and all were excellent especially O'Tunel (up steps at tunnel entrance). Louisana (old Fishermans Beach) Sizzling Stone (just off roundabout at bottom of strip) - but book it is very popular. Taj Mahal (towards top of strip across from Bunnys Bar)
Prices were reasonable for food but the sunbeds are very steep at €15 for two beds and brolly!

Resort excellent and highly recommended.
We did not go to the beach as the pool was a better option for us.
