Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

We stayed in Albeferia which was enjoyable however after one visit to the Strip we never went back as it reminded us of Blackpool. However the new town was far superior and every evening we visited Sir Harrys Bar was our favourite the food and service was excellent.

A great resort for Families. Our Children are 15 and 10 had they loved it. You have the choice of the "Srip" in the new town, which has loads of bars, restaurants, shops etc - everything you need, and the Old Town which is quite different - more traditional but still loads to do. Would recommend the "Bravo" restaurant in the square.
This was our first visit to the Algarve, we will definitely go back.

Great beaches. Some cafes, restaurants especially good beach cafes/restaurents.
Not overrun by Brits. Advisable to have carto visit local beaches and into town.

Old town of Albufeira is great and I would definately return. Felt very safe even at night.
One word of warning, watch out for the timeshare touts, they try to offer you scratchcards and surprisingly you win!!! Beaches are very clean, sea is cold and the waves can be quite big and other days the sea can be like a millpond -still as cold!! This can be quite refreshing when it's very hot though.
The square in the old town is lovely with lots going on for the kids - street entertainers including a puppet show - my little one watched it nearly every night!

We have been to Albufeira twice now and we would rather try another resort next time. Neverless it is a lovely place and we had a wonderful holiday.

A genuinely lovely and enjoyable resort which is suitable for all groups - singles, couples and families.
We stayed in the New part, close to the Strip: Praia da Oura beach is close by; it is a clean beach which is surrounded by pleasant places to eat and is subject to curiously high tides during the day which caught many holidaymakers out.
Our evenings concentrated on the Strip in the main, which is not tacky in any way. It is a long road of restaurants, clubs, bars, shops etc. which will appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Recommended restaurants include the up-market "Wild & Co" (expensive), and more reasonably-priced places like La Bambas and Renos. If you like Chinese food I must recommend the Golden Garden restaurant which is almost in a side-street off the Strip, almost opposite "Wild " Co". We had the cheapest meals there and it is immaculate inside!
The old town is certainly worth investigating - it is very quaint with a big market square and many side-streets full of restaurants, souvenir shops etc. You can walk along the main beach and over to the main harbour and quench your thirst in one of the local pubs overlooking the whole of Albufeira. It has breath-taking views.
Some of the main attractions we visited, were in isolated locations about 1/2 hour's drive from Albufeira, e.g. Albufeira Zoo & Slide 'N' Splash. Both are highly recommended, especially if you have children.
The only decision you have to make is whether to get a taxi, which gives you control over the time you go and the time you leave, but is expensive (it was 30 Euros return to the zoo and 70 Euros return to Slide 'N' Splash). The taxi service here is unpredictable to say the least. One day we waited 1 hour in the nearest taxi rank, yet the next day we got one straight away!
Booking with local Travel Shops/Tour Operators is cheaper but you are inevitably subject to innumerable pick-ups and delays, and you are bound by certain time contraints.
I must also remark on how friendly the Portugeuse people are, especially in the restauarnts. They made you "feel at home."
We would definitley go back, simply because the resort caters for everybody. Take plenty of suncream if you are going in July/August is gets very hot and the breeze will do nothing to prevent you getting sunburnt!

We stayed in Forte S. Jaou (not too sure of spelling) which is in Albufeira. The beach was excellent, it was very clean and had loads of water activities going on (we didn't take part in any)from para-sailing to banana boats. We never visited 'The Strip' as we were told that the atmosphere in 'The old Town' of Albufeira was a lot nicer.
The Old Town was beautiful with cobbled streets and little stalls selling souveneirs. Street entertainers were also brilliant from musicians to jugglers with loads of bars and restaurants to choose from.
We went on three day trips, Aquashow, zoomarine and the jeep safari. All were excellent but if I had to pick a favourite it would definitely be zoomarine because I swam with the dolphins!!!
Overall we had a fantastic holiday and are thinking of booking the same place next year already!!!

The resort of Albufeira is your typical 18-30's resort, although when we were ther it had become quieter and there were more couples around.
The beach is beautiful and as for 'cardiac hill', if you're from Wales then you cannot class it as a hill.
Beware people who try and give you scratchcards as you will definitely win and then be promised an excellent prize only to have your afternoon wasted being shown a hotel.

Enjoyed the Strip and also the adjacent streets plenty of bars, restaurants and live entertainment.
If you want more of something of a feel of portugal go to the old town of Albufeira.
Never had a bad meal in 2 weeks we were there.
found meal prices reasonable but found drinks higher than the UK
