Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Beaches

The village itself, although growing, still has a nice feel to it and theres a great choice of places to eat on the (steep) hill leading down to the beach and a lovely bar(leo's) right on the beach for that pre or post-dinner drink while the kids play right in front of you on the beach.
After visiting five times we have never yet felt the need to venture into Albefura but i guess that depends on what you want from a holiday. At the moment the kids are still to young to be requesting hotels closer to the action, although i guess that will change!

Plenty of bars and shops the strip was clean and plenty of entertainment in the bars along the strip even for the kids which was very good as they get bored going from one bar to another.

We stayed rightin albufeira at the beginning of the old town, we did visit the the strip but it was full of karaoke bars etc, a bit like blackpool with the sun, We found the old town still offerred entertainment for all the family, but in a more tradational way, although there were still some bars that had neil diamond impersonators ( very good I may add) The choice of restaurants and quality of food was very good especially along the front. expect to pay around 70- 90 Euros a night for 2 adults and 1 child having starters and main courses with juice
and a bottle of wine. A Visit to splash & Slide is woth it

We stayed in Areias Sao Joao. Nice resort with many bars and resturants. Close by to the srtip. South side of stip quite noisy and a bit intimidating. North of strip more family orientated and nicer resturants. Nice beaches close by and lots of water sports.

The area nearest the hotel is called the strip and is about 2-3 miles long. There are many great bars and restaurants however you have to look carefully for ones which cater for keeping your children amused while you have a quiet drink.
Legends on the strip has games and a bouncy castle which is free. The old tpwn of Alberfura is a delight with long winding streets loads of bars cafes and shops.
The beach there is very clean but busy, look out for the sand artists they are amazing you'll never build a sandcastle again after seeing what these guys can create. Beware of the timeshare touts they are out in force and very difficult to shake off without being rude.

Wonderful clean beach at the 'Old Town'. Standard of food and cleanliness in the restaurants was very good (although some of the toilets were not pleasant!)

Beaches nice and clean. Old town worth a couple of visits.
Ate at the restaurants recommended in these reviews or on the freemap. Decent quality all round on both English and Portugese. Don't overlook the most convenient restaurant - the Casa Velha opposite the Coyote.Doesn't look great from outside but serves good quality food, especially the Portugese dishes and, for those on a budget, its menu of the day (3 courses and drinks for under E9) is good value.
Dont do your trips through the rep or reception. Paradise Tours - turn right at roundabout and 5 mins up on the left- do the same trips at much lower prices.

We didnt get out much in the resort, because the hotel was that good you didnt want to go away from it!! There are buses from the hotel going into the Old Town and New Town (The Strip) !1

Beaches are very good. There is something for all tastes with regards to nighlife & restraunts in Albufeira. 2 places with family entertainment which the kids loved (& we'd recommend) were Father Eds & Coconuts.

The Beach was beautiful here. We enjoyed the Old Town too and visited some lovely shops and Bars. All the people seemed nice and friendly.
The down side is that it is such a trek from this Hotel to the Beach and Old Town. You need to be very fit and active and able to climb seriously long hills and steps. Not at all suitable for people with a disability.
I was very disappointed that the holiday brochure is so economical with the truth. We did have a lovely view from our room however !
