Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

We arrived at the hotel the weather was nice. Although it was on the top of a hill so every night we went out it would take ages to get up the hill. I have never been away before where there was not a bar all they had was a few cans of beer behind recption which were walm. The pool was not that big. The staff were not helpful at all. The only good thing about the holiday was when we went to recption to change out travelers cheque we gave the lady ÂŁ100 and she gave us ÂŁ200 back she did this twice and never did anything about it. The maids came in the week they were very moody to. Overall the holiday was ok but we wouldnt go back again.

Albufiera was very nice. The beaches were excellent and there was plenty to do in the evening - lots of street entertainers.
The tourist train around the resort was excellent value for money - 3 euros for unlimited day/evening use.
There are some steep parts that some may find difficult but as transport was so cheap this could be easily overcome.

First time in the Algarve, staying in the Montechero district just next to Albufeira and will be going again. Old town is a must.
Tours. - We went to Lisbon for day, but a long journey from resort to Lisbon (3 - 4 hrs.) and nothing to see but cork trees till you get there.
We went on the Historical Algarve tour and it was BRILLIANT. The tour guide we had never stopped talking about all the places we were going through.
I would recommend it to anybody, old or quite young. There are plenty of stops. We went with Paradise tours, and not with holiday rep. or hotel reception, as prices to Lisbon were :-
Holiday rep :- 52E EACH.
Hotel rep :- 28E EACH with 10% off
Tour office :- 32E for the TWO OF US, as they were doing buy one, get one free.
There is a tour office on left side of strip(going down) just after crossing main road, and another one nearer the beach on same side.

The old town was just 10 minutes walk from our hotel and a two minute ride back on the tram which stopped right outside our hotel. The tram cost 3 euros for a day pass and was well worth it. The beaches here were long, sandy and clean, but take a towel & buy a parasol as the hire cost of loungers etc. was quite expensive. The square in the old town was surrounded by good shops and restaurants with lively street entertainment all day and evening.
A little more expensive than the new town but well worth it. We found a great little book shop run by two english ladies who not only helped us choose books but were a wealth of information on free buses, good places to see etc.
The strip ( the new town) was a 10 minute tram ride away.
This was mostly our night time haunt as the beach was quite a walk away down a steep hill and not very large. The strip was similar to our Blackpool. The people were friendly, the food was good; we'd recommend Coconuts 2 especially if you love watching sport; and there was something for everyone. They love kids over there and on the whole nothing was two much trouble.

What must be the best resort on the Algarve. There is the option of the strip for the karaoke bars and clubs and fast food etc. or at the other end the beautiful old town with cobbled streets, musicians and entertainers in the square and beautiful restaurants. one of the best restaurants has to be Bravo's on the square.it's always busy and has everything on the menu and lovely staff.
In general, in all the restaurants, a main meal cost between 9 and 16 euros, desserts 3-8 euros.
Beaches are sandy and long but beware the sea is freezing.

This was our first trip to Portugal and after much deliberation, decided on Albufeira.
We stayed at the Montechoro end and were very pleased to find how clean the roads and pavements are kept. Plenty of bins around for rubbish and also a recycling area.
A host of restaurants, shops, bars and showbars all along the strip leading down to the beach.
Very family orientated and children made to feel welcome in all the places we visited.
The beach is golden sand with a variety of water sports available, including jet skis, bannana boat, pedaloes etc. Sun-beds and umbrellas available. A life-guard station is also situated on the beach.
We found this to be a lovely resort, even though it is British orientated, and would definitely visit again as there is so much to do and explore. Unfortunatley, we did not get round to doing much during the day as it was extremely hot, but we do plan to return and try again!!

The area was great only 10 mins to the strip and 10 mins by taxi to the old town (4 euros each way)
The old town was great at night and the bars are full of life, for all ages.

We stayed in albufiera which we found to be clean everywhere we went. There was plenty of bars and restaurants in both the strip and old town, but we found the strip to be a little over powering and very busy.
We never actually went onto the beach, it was far too hot and we thought we would frazzle but when we went to the old town we had a look and it was lovely nice and clean with sunbeds and umbrellas to hire if you wanted.

Albufeira is ideal for a sun, sand and sea holiday and there are plenty of bars and restaurants but not a place to go for culture. Excursions available mainly centered around water parks, boat trips and "safari" but apart from a small motor boat trip around the coves not much else attracted me. However the beaches are lovely and if you like messing about in the sea although the water is cold its wonderful. Preferred the old town area to "the strip" as it had more atmosphere and lots of street entertainers to keep you amused and a number of bars/restaurants many with live peformances nightly
