Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

The hotel is centrally located between the strip and the old town, both within walking distance (Strip 10 mins, old town 20 mins on the beach, 25 mins by road) Taxis are numerous and very cheap. The old town is well worth a visit both by day for shopping and at night for the entertainment.

Albufeira is a clean and tidy place with a cleaning force busy in town before breakfast. The beach was clean and well kept with quite easy access. We did not go out in the evening because we were happy in the hotel. We would return to this resort.

Resort was very quiet which we expected for April so not a problem there.
Restaurants nothing to rave about, food very mediocre and quite expensive, drinks in bars very expensive too. Lots of little shops to wander about in, would imagine in high season very crowded.
The beach was huge, and lovely golden sand, locals walked their dogs on it and DID NOT clean up the poo so you needed to watch where you sat!!!

Old albuferia, beautiful beaches where you can walk round a huge rocky headland or just walk for miles.
Very clean, great places to eat, particularly in the main square.

Fantastic place and very friendly people, but beware the timeshare touts. They will approach you with a scratch card saying you are guaranteed a prize (normally a bottle of cheap plonk) you are taken to a swish hotel and held prisoner (that’s how we felt) for at least 2 hours. At the end of it you are quoted an extortionate price for the privilege of taking holidays! You have been warned. In the end we found the best excuse was to say we owned a property in Portugal.
Fantastic food at reasonable prices we found a jewel of a restaurant on the strip called Luigi's

For a renowned tourist resort, Albufeira is certainly a lot cleaner than we imagined. However, grafitti is noticeable en route to and in & and around the area, which locals verify is on the increase.
English touts also taint the resort (even when it was raining in the low season!). Further afield (inland)some places and buildings seem somewhat dilapidated but nonetheless very clean.
If you like bright lights, eating out, crowds, loud music, golf and seaside tackiness then Albufeira has it all. If you don't, venture inland just a short distance and you'll find breathtaking scenery, history and lovely people.
Either way, entertainment is guaranteed. Not fair to judge a beach when it's a wet stormy February and we didn't see it all, but the old town section had dog mess and drew a few beggars. Not at its best I'm sure.
Would certainly have no hesitation in returning to the Sera (unspoilt natural beauty, history, archaeology, castles, wildlife, really friendly locals, picturesque towns) but weather aside, Albufeira's suffering the downside of tourist impact. A big thanks to Allan Sutton (resort transfer/tours www.ownersinportugal.org) who showed us some of the real Algarve.

The beach is the most beautiful I have seen in Europe. It has lots of alcoves and caves to explore and the sand is golden. It was deserted when we went as it was low season.
The night life was poor, as said because it was low season so most of The Strip was closed especially at night. There were at best, 3 or 4 restaurants open and only 2 or 3 bars which were dead. There were also 2 resaurants open on the beach front.
The public transport was APPALLING. Don't bother waiting for a bus. It was 20 euros in taxi to the next resort of Villamora.
Our rep didn't seem to know the area (or care); in the welcome meeting he kept banging on about how good this bar or that bar was when they weren't even open!!!
Overall, the holiday was difficult to rate fairly as we went in low season and I am sure things would be far different and much better in summer.
