Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Albufeira is quite clean, not as bad as alot of the Greek Islands we have visited.
The location is about 10 minutes from the top of the strip, which is quite a contrast to the older town. The "Strip" is the modern part of the town, I have seen it described as rowdy, we have two children aged 12 and 15 and they loved it down there. You could have a nice quiet meal up in the evening but it's probably best to be out of the "Strip" before midnight when it does get lively.
The old harbour and town is lovely and definately worth the bus ride down (or walk which takes about 30 mintes.) We took the local circular buses which were very cheap and easy to use.
The beach in the old town was long and very clean, but does get quite busy as the tide comes right up in the afternoon. However if you walk along to the left of the beach is does get quieter. This beach was unsuitable for non swimmers and snorkelling.

Being in our 40s, we were a little concerned as I had been told that Albufeira was like one big 18-30 holiday. However this proved not to be the case - there are plenty of bars, but we found probably more families with young children than groups of teens & 20s.
The Montechoro Strip proved to be full of good bars and restaurants.
When we wanted a change we caught the tourist train (3 euros for an all-day ticket) to the Old Town, which is quaint but small, with its own selection of bars and restaurants, including more Portugese local specialities.
There was also a local festival on whilst we were there, with lots of the locals coming out to see the fado group.
I found the resort clean apart from having to keep an eye out for dog poo - there seem to be a lot of stray dogs.
Praia da oura beach was good - very clean, 2 sunbeds and a parasol cost 15 euros, there are a few cafes etc.

Montechoro has everything you could possibly require for a wild night out......bars, Karaoke and so many places to eat mean you are spoilt for choice every night.
For a taste of the real Algarve, Albefuira is fabulous at night with mimic's, live music and street artists.
Best family resort we have ever been to!

A lot of the side streets were dirty. Good provision of litter bins(I liked the idea of the bins which you sorted your rubbish for recycling). All toilets I used were very clean.
Resort entertainment was much the same all over, a lot of Karaoke. Quality of food generally good.
Santa Eulalia Beach is lovely but watch out for rocks in the water.Don't know how much to use sunbeds on beach as didn't use them!

Albufeira - ideal for a family holiday. Definately not a Young and Lively resort!

Said most of it in pevious report but would like to say the old town is excellent for chilling out and the strip is excellent for having it large, both have massive selection of places to eat, particulary recomend sizzling stone just off the strip, great food on red hot stone cooks in front of your eyes.mmmmm also if you like to feel at home go to jojo's in the old town, very friendly staff and massive portions of fish, burgers, pasta etc.etc .. watch out for the street mimics following you round (great fun)

there was very little in the resort. however the saving factor was a british run pub with a play area for little ones and a games room. The food and service was fab as were the prices.

Balaia where our apartments were based did not have a lot except the lovely beach which was reached via load of steps. I am sure the area is more up and coming as it could do with a few more shops and places to eat.
The strip is best reached by taxi as it can be a long walk especially in the heat.
