Don't pay extra for a sea view as most rooms have a sea view or over-look the quiet pool. Restaurants/drinks in and around square expensive but there are a few bars and restaurants near the hotel circa half the price. Best, The Bagatelle.150m from hotel is the best. On the flat?

Good location but self catering is the way to go and there is a supermarket close by.

Upper floors of blocks 3, 4, or 5 seem to be the best located for views away from the main block 2 where rather reception, restaurants, bars and entertainment is held. We were on the 4th floor and were very satisfied apart from not being aware of the lack of hob and oven.
Boardwalks have been built by the hotels of the area giving easy access to the beach and beach side kiosks and restaurants. The best beach restaurant we found was Os Salgados, a seafood restaurant.
One at the other end of the beach was far less agreeable with ambience, food and service. Walking beyond Os Salgados on boardwalks are views of a river/ lagoon where you can see fish, water birds and terrapins. Not too far from Albufeira for more restaurants and shops.

Brilliant hotel located very close to the square, where you will find a large number of restaurants and bars.

Being a busy resort it is difficult to keep things spotlessly clean, but it was reasonably clean in the main tourist areas.
The street entertainment is excellent, we spent many an hour sat with a drink listening to the sax player and the pan pipes. The fire dancer was entertaining as were all the other acts during our 2 week stay. There was a good selection of restaurants in the old town and along The Strip. Something for everyone from english to chinese or italian or local produce. Lots of bars with live entertainment too, and disco's for the younger visitors.
Did not use the beach facilities but did notice they were very clean and had lifeguards, along with the usual sunbeds and parasols and watersports. Sand sculptures on the fishermans beach were amazing!
Yes we would definetely visit this resort again on a self catering basis to sample the vast array of restaurants. We enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the Old Town, lively bustling and friendly.
The one bugbear of the holiday resort is the Timeshare Touts who pester you frequently, you do have to be firm with them. It is time the authoroties did something about them, they can be menacing if you are timid.

Lots of bars and places to eat around, be aware of the touts saying you have won 400 euros, honest, you are the first person this month have got the lucky scrachcard...dont waste your time even if they say bottles drink will be given to you as well as 400 euros...walk on belive me.
All in all the area was great, as loud or as peaceful as you wanted it to be, people are very friendly...go there and try it, we will again.

The closest resort being 'The Strip' in Albufeira was very lively in the evening and an ideal place to eat out, shop or just take a leisurely walk.
The old town was beautiful with some lovely shops and excellent restaurants.
The local beach was a fair walk (especially with pushchairs)and an uphill walk back in the heat was very tiring. However the hotel did run a courtesy bus to and from but only at set times throughout the day.
A good holiday was had by all!!!

The resort was very clean, there was lots of entertainment on the 'Strip and there was also a little train which could take you over to the old town of Albufeira for the day.
The food in the Algarve was first class - especially the milshakes in La Bamba's!!
The beach was only a 10 minute downhill walk from the Hotel and it was very clean and well maintained with cafes and a supermarket close by.

The beach nearest to our hotel was down a very steep, long road. We went only once as, with 2 pushchairs, it was extremely hard to access.

The resort is quite quiet, but there is lots of restuarants around. The best one being Il Fratellis, we ate there quite a few times. Its only 3 euro in a taxi to the strip where it is a lot livelier and there is even more restaurants!

Resort was very clean considering how busy it was in the height of the season. Entertainment was endless - all types of bars, restaurants, shops, parks, play areas for children. Although the Tropical Sol Apartments were a good 10 minute walk from the beach, we did walk there a few times and walked to the Old Town along the beach which took another 15/20 minutes - lovely walk. When we first arrived we thought the resort was a little too busy for us but great for our 16 year old daughter. However by the second week we were getting into the swing of it and really enjoyed Albufeira.

Albufeira has something for everyone. The clubs are good, but not as in-your-face as the livlier resorts in Greece or Spain. The locals are friendly. The nightlife is varied and there are plenty of things to do during the day. The restaurants are also generally superb. The only bad meal we had was at Ancona's Grill, which took an hour to get to us and was then the wrong order (and what we did get was burnt).
The old town is very picturesque. The restaurants are all wonderful and the Rock Cafe is well worth a visit. Taxis can be a pain between the strip and old town on weekends. I'd recommend you get the little train thing.
A lot of people rave about Slide and Splash, but I wasn't very impressed. Way too overcrowded (I know waterparks are crowded in mid-August, but this was easily the most crowded I've ever been to - at least 45 min wait for ever slide). And whatever you do don't get the meals there. Unless you like tepid roast chicken and cold chips. Get the pizzas or a salad instead.
Minor quibbles aside, I would recommend Albufeira to anyone, as it seems to cater for all tastes and ages.
